Mashpee Zoning Town of Mashpee 2
Board of Appeals Proposed Library
f 2 V-08-23
proposed library will be a two story building and contain approximately 20,800 square
feet. This building will have the capacity to hold 380 occupants which is the build out
projection for the next 20 years. The bidding will commence in July and they anticipate
building to begin in October. Mr. Pomroy estimates the job should be complete in
approximately 16 months.
.Mashpee Commons gifted the land to the Town with the provision that they
maintain design authority and review rights in order to align the character of the
municipal building with that of the proposed post office which is going to be built
directly next door, as well as the local flavor Mashpee Commons has built over the past
twenty years. The buildings will share a common walkway and parking, thus offering
convenience to residents and ease some of the parking burden. The parking proposes
double rows and Ms. Laurent, Director of DPW states that the Town will accommodate
the 9 1/2 foot size parking dimensions required by the town by-laws. The height of the
building will require a variance as well since designing a municipal building such as the
- abutting church and the proposed post office requires nearly the same dimensions to
\, attain similar needs and looks of the buildings.
Mr. Pomroy discusses their efforts on erecting and maintaining an energy efficient
building. Photo voytaics specifically refers to capturing energy from the sun and they
wish to incorporate and maintain the highest level of energy resourcefulness wherever
possible.
Though the plans show a coopala,the money is not available at the moment and
perhaps it will be donated. Regardless,that would be exempt from the height restrictions
and would not need a variance should the coopala be added at a later date.
The variances requested are as follows:
l. the elimination of the 10 foot sideline vegetative buffer commencing at
Steeple Street and running and continuing 180 feet along the easterly
property line of the parcel for the purposes of the creation of a sidewalk
and or parking
2. 28.9 feet from Steeple Street;
Y 3. 10.4 feet from Jobs Fishing Road;
