Mashpee IncCusim and'Diversity Committee
16 Great .Neck Road Worth
Nashpee, N-A 02649
Brad Sweet and the new minister Sally Norris from the church feel they are not in a position
to take the lead or have a coordinating role on this matter. A lot of these efforts are church
based. The church is in a transition period and she would be interested in a project in the
future.
4. Committee Report for Town Meeting
Madam Chair stated the Town Meeting reports were completed and turned in on time. She
thanked Mr. Kupferman for help with the editing.
NEW BUSINESS
1. Resignation of JoAnn Nadeau
Chairwoman is grateful for Ms. Nadeau's work on the Committee over the years. She was
involved in the Committee since its formation in 2018.
Ms. Nadeau took a moment to thank everyone. She had a wonderful experience and hopes
to continue this work no matter where she resides once she is settled. The experience she
gained from working with inclusion has been wonderful and rewarding.
2. Potential New Member Interview: Rachel Hicks
Ms. Hicks joined the Zoom at 5:30p.m. To require a formal letter, interview questions were
asked.
Q1. What prompted your interest in the Inclusion and Diversity Committee?
Ms. Hicks responded that she was involved in an anti-racism book club. She herself didn't
catch on to living in a biracial home for 40 years. Reading these books got her attention on
what she hasn't done and what she didn't know. Ms. Nadeau was also a part of this club.
Ms. Hicks recently retired and was looking for a position on the Committee. Currently, she
is taking a class on micro aggressions once a week. Sadly, she has had blinders on. She
loves this community and was very involved in the Chamber when she had her business.
She was always Mrs. Clause at the breakfast. COVID, along with retirement, did not allow
for much. She wants to be a part of something and she comes with good ideas. She is
great with events, as she used to put them on through the Chamber. Her strength is in
organizing events, but more than anything she wants to make a difference. She cannot
impress enough how she went through the last 40 years without knowing the needs. Ms.
Hicks has also been involved in the Native community. She hopes to learn through the
Committee and the courses she has elected to take. She described a little bit of her family
dynamic with her two daughters.
4
