Mashpee 1"nclusim and Diversity Committee
wi p y
16 Great Neck R.oadWorth
?Viashpee, MA 02649
2. Column
Mr. Kupferman was thinking about recruitment. March is Women's History Month and Irish
American Heritage Month. He tied them together a little bit, but they are in two sections, and
he addressed both in the column. If recruitment is needed, it can be revisited. This article
will appear in the paper on Friday.
3. Elderly Pedestrians Safety Update
Madam Chair would like to bring this up later in the meeting. What can MIDC learn from
what little we know?
OLD BUSINESS
1. Diversity Project
Amna Igbal, the MIDC Student Representative, is very involved in this project that is
comprised of photos and stories of student immigrants. On Sunday, May 22, 2022, the
Mashpee Public Library will be hosting the kickoff with the author Becky Field. There was an
award from Mass Cultural Council for $500. When looking back at what this Committee has
accomplished, she reached out to a Cape Cod Five contact that has been a resource for this
Committee in the past. The initial relationship helped fund this future project. They thought it
was great idea and were very impressed and want to push for this project.
A picture painted by a student will be used. A screen presentation and program QR codes
will be around the room, as well as some of Ms. Field's work, but really focusing on the
student projects. At least ten individuals will present their work, and the exhibit will in the
Public Library all summer. The pieces will be professionally framed to allow for easier
mobility. John Miller, a Mashpee resident, will be doing it at cost, which is about half price.
This is exciting and something to be proud of. Ms. Stevenson and the students are working
on a name for the project.
2. Race Amity Day
This will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2022. Ms. Hicks and Mr. Kupferman will Co-Chair the
subcommittee for Race Amity Day. On March 18, 2022, Ms. Stevenson wrote a grant
proposal to the Mass Cultural Council. They were offering $1,500 for any town running a
festival. She sat in on a training and then someone helped her with the application. The
decision will be made later in the week.
The Donovans from the Baha'is group are ready to jump in when they return. Deb Davis is
on board, who was a large help last year. Chris Ball from Mashpee TV was instrumental in
filming. At the close of Race Amity Day last year Mr. Donovan and Chairwoman were
interviewed. She would love to use that to promote the program this year. She contacted the
2
