In the appendix there are direct runoff samples .
He explained that they did more sampling around River Bend
runoff and there is a very high concentration of bacteria
associated- with materials associated with sewage -- elevated
ammonia, nitrogen and phosphorus.
They are single sampling results and there should be
repeated sampling.
Tony asked. Oren from the Board of Health what their process
would be?
He stated that they will follow up on any recommendations.
They have done some work there already. They never did
detect anything.
Dr. Kerfoot stated that it can be due to a periodic: failure,
due to very heavy rainfall.
Tony asked Dr. Kerfoot how it compares to other situations ,
have you seen worse counts than that?
Dr. Kerfoot stated yes ,from direct effluent discharge. He
has seen situations higher than this ,
Oren stated that there are a number of homes besides the
River Bend complex which can be contributing to the high
counts .
Dr. Kerfoot will ask the field person the specific location
the sample was taken.
He stated that the normal response to a situation like this
is to do additional sampling.
Judy asked Oren if there is anything the town can do about
it?
Oren stated that the Board of Health will have to do die
testing on each of the systems.
Judy asked who is monitoring the quality of the well located
there which is a public water supply?
Oren stated that they are required to do sampling quarterly,
by the owner , and the Board of Health gets copies of the
results. It is not a witnessed sample .
Oren would want to sample all water supplies in the
neighborhood.
Tom asked Oren if they do find something, do they have the
authority to require them to upgrade the system.
Oren stated that they do if it shows they have: a system
which is failing.
Oren stated that when they receive the official report th::y
will be able to proceed.
Dr, Kerfoot stated that they hope to have final report ,
Mashpee River portion, finished by the end of July.
Joanne Ferragam❑ suggested that a copy of the report be sent
to Steve Hurley from Division of Fisheries and Wildlife and
to the Conservation Commission agent .
Tony authorized Dr. Kerfoot to do additional sampling in
that area.
- 4
