" Mash ee Inclusion andD " ersit Committee
p _ y
.........__. ............_.w.w.www_._.......................__......._.......m...._.... ..w.x..x__........w_.w. . 16 Great Neck Road North
Nashyee, J4A 02649
canceled the DEI committee with a majority vote. She will send a copy of the letter to the
Committee.
During the Coalition meeting, there were conversations with members of that committee that
was disbanded. They were invited to the meeting for support and advice on how to proceed
and what else can be done. A new committee started in Sandwich. She reminded everyone
that a group can still gather, it doesn't have to be under the guidance of the town. They will
have support from their community members as well. The Coalition is informal and they share
activities, she shared Race Amity Day. Sometimes there are issues they discuss and people
just want to be supported.
Ms. Johnson-Graham asked if there was a DEI committee in Wareham. Last week, a relative
of hers was driving with four other boys of color and they got pulled over. The Police thought it
was the same car that was seen nearby at a store that was just robbed. Those same
gentleman are getting harassed about fishing rights often. She noted there are a lot of Tribal
members who live in Wareham because they cannot afford to live on Cape.
Ms. Stevenson stated there is a committee in Bourne and some school boards have
subcommittees. There are two teachers from the Bourne school subcommittee in her Coalition.
They have Plymouth representation as well. At one point she was contacted by a man in
Provincetown working to get a committee then she lost track of his efforts. He was working
with the Human Rights Committee and he then moved. Woods Hole has diversity
representation that another gentleman from the group represents.
3. Local Comprehensive Plan (LCP)
Ms. Stevenson has been participating in the LCP workshops. The first workshop was dealing
with culture. She debriefed and discussed the controversy about the Tribal lands not being
included on the maps. This last meeting they discussed water systems and sewer. There was
discussion about how different committees aren't communicating with one another. Inclusion is
part of getting people to communicate with one another. Each Committee has an assigned
Select Board representative and there is no communication. This Committee is viewed as
being put together, fully membered, and accomplished.
She noticed at the reception for the diversity project, there were no leadership representatives
from the town present. The exhibit goes until August 20, 2022. Advertisements are out at the
Town Hall when people are getting their stickers from the Town Clerk. We want to keep
3
