Community Preservation Committee
Minutes
November 3, 2022
APPOINTMENTS & HEARINGS
Status U ldate onwCPAwFundedwProiects.
CatherinenLaurent: De aartment of Public Works Pro ects: (continued)
A ribbon cutting ceremony was recently held to open the $1,709,400 Multi -purpose Track &
Field StadiummRenovation project. The CPC project was approved by the voters at the May 2022
Town Meeting. The project is 98% complete. There may be some turnback, but the estimate
was solid.
The $2,970,350 project was also funded through the Capital Improvement Program (CIP)
budget. An incentive was received from the Cape Light Compact for the conversion of lighting
to LED to improve upon light quality and energy efficiency.
A number of games have been held and two high school teams have made the playoffs. With a
rainy fall, the grass fields would have been unplayable. The lighting has also been favorable for
night games.
Richard DeSorgher: µHistorical Commission Projects;
Historical Commission member Richard DeSorgher gave an update on CPA projects. As noted,
the Mashpee War Monument project is underway. After considerable research the names for the
granite monument shaped in the design of a wave will contain names of Veterans who derived
from the Town of Mashpee since 1870.
The Vermont Granite company has the proofs to begin the process. It is anticipated the
monument would be installed in the spring with an official dedication following. This should be
a nice enhancement to the Community Park.
Catherine Laurent, Director of Public Works and Rita Lopez from the Mashpee Wampanoag
Tribe were acknowledged for their assistance in bringing this project forward.
An additional monument is planned for Mashpee Veterans participating the Iraq and Afghanistan
Wars; Persian Gulf War. A committee would be formed to identify the appropriate names for
this memorial. In addition, there is consideration to construct another monument to honor the
Veterans who served during peacetime.
It was recommended that a sign be placed at the Community Park site location to recognize this
project in the construction phase.
