The Human Rights Commission brought this in.
Ms. Igbal stated the permission slips are being prepared for the outing to Cape Cod Academy
in Osterville. They will attend a meeting for local Human Rights Clubs to gather and have an
open discussion. They also are supporting the Thirst project as well as the Mashpee backpack
drive. The walkathon for Project Thirst is on November 6t" for anyone who would like to
participate.
Chair Stevenson commented they are going to try Diversity Day again, it was held off for a
while due to Covid. This group conducts events to
facilitate education, diversity, discrimination, and community building. With that being said, Ms.
Stevenson introduced Select Board member David Weeden to speak on the recent issue
between him and the Board.
By day, Mr. Weeden is the Tribal Historic Preservation Officer. He is largely familiar with the
history of this town. For those that may not know, Mashpee started out as an Indian plantation,
then Indian district, and eventually became incorporated against the belief of the tribal
proprietors, where it became incorporated by the state.
