Commissioner Morris will research regulations for providing temporary handicapped
spaces and report back to the committee.
3. Municipal ADA Website Review and Findings
The Committee reviewed the purpose statements of other surrounding Cape towns who
have active ADA Committees. The committee discussed the possibility of changing the
current name of the committee to align with other municipal committee names. A review
of the current ADA statement as it reads on the Town's ADA webpage will be discussed
at the January meeting and the committee may draft an updated statement to more
accurately reflect the mission/purpose of the committee.
NEW BUSINESS
1. Town Manager Address
The Town Manager was asked to address the committee to discuss the mission/purpose
of the committee from his standpoint. The Town Manager suggested that this advisory
ADA committee consider revising the current statement of purpose to identify the
fundamental responsibilities of the committee even if that meant bringing forth a new
mission/purpose to the Select Board. ADA concerns have
been a topic of discussion at times with Mashpee Commons. The Town Manager recently
addressed a request from Local Inspector Maintanis who requested that a ramp/cutout
be installed at a location near the post office in the Commons. They agreed to do it,
although it is not required. The Town Manager also stated that he has no problem getting
a legal opinion from town counsel if the committee makes a request.
The Town Manager would like ADA complaints to be referred to the committee and with
available resources the committee would then determine whether or not there was a
violation. It is the role of the committee to vet out these types of situations.
The Town Manager provided his response to a recent mooring complaint from a resident
relative to a special mooring request.
2.
