Mashpee Inclusion and Diversity Committee
16 Great Neck Road North
Mashpee, MA 02649
The video for Diversity Day will include ageism. When she thinks of ageism it includes the
older population, but it is actually the age group of 15-24. There can be different extremes. Ms.
DeBoer noted it can also be seen a lot towards younger women in the work place. She
suggested a column about ageism. The video of Change the Narrative was passed around.
She sent it to the Coalition and this Committee.

st
Women’s Advocacy Day is May 31 in Boston. Senator Moran is sponsoring a bus to the State
House.

OLD BUSINESS
Budget Approval
st
Beginning July 1 we have $2,000 from the Human Services Department budget. We will still
continue to write grants. We have a purpose as a Committee to include programming and
without funding it is hard to do that successfully.

Purpose Statement
The addition of belonging to the Purpose Statement was approved last evening at the Select
Board meeting. She will have the website updated. A Harvard study is looking at the concept
of belonging. She liked this breakdown: “Diversity is having a seat at the table, Inclusion is
having a voice, and Belonging is having that voice heard. Diversity is a fact, Equity is a choice,
Inclusion is an action, and Belonging is an outcome”.

Approval of New Member: Rolf Brandt
Mr. Brandt is now an official member of the MIDC. When he asked if he needed to be present
at the Select Board meeting it was decided his presence was required. Sometimes they just
approve people, so there needs to be some clarification on the process. They have this
wonderful policy and a number of committees that have vacancies. Ms. Stevenson will write to
Mr. Collins. The interested party writes a letter of intent, they interview with the committee or
board, then we have them appear before the Select Board. The least they could do is say
thank you and happy to meet you or thank you for putting forth the effort.

Race Amity Day 2023
Mr. Kupferman commented that they are moving along. Richard and Theresa Donovan are
here today. The Donovan’s commented that he and Rowela are doing an amazing job
organizing this event. There is another meeting Wednesday, but mostly everything is all set.
They are still looking to see if they can use what the town uses at Town Meeting for ASL, a
prompt people can read from. They have $400 and will still be within budget.

3
