Tribal Historic Ways <br /> Urban Harbors Institute(UHI)is working on scheduling individual meetings with tribal elders, <br /> to learn more about historic ways lost to development and land transfers. Chief Earl Mills, <br /> Vernon "Buddy" Pocknett, Derek Mills, and Norman Dias are willing to be interviewed. <br /> • Woods Hole Group: <br /> Seconsett Island Causeway <br /> Dack Stuart,from Woods Hole Group presented on Seconsett Island Causeway: Conditions and <br /> Recommendations: <br /> o Seconsett Island Road is the only road providing access to Seconsett Island and the <br /> homes, businesses, public facilities, and marina located there. <br /> 0 8/14/23 =Woods Hole Group Professional Engineer,Engineer in Training and Coastal <br /> Scientist toured site with Ashley Fisher. <br /> o Notes,photos and survey-grade GPS data collected, conducted interview with Ashley <br /> fisher. <br /> o One section of the roadway lies at the top of a stone revetment facing Waquoit Bay and <br /> frequently experiences storm wave overwash during winter storms. <br /> o The revetment is used for dinghy storage for accessing the adjacent mooring field. <br /> o One section of the roadway lies at the top of a stone revetment facing Waquoit Bay and <br /> frequently experiences storm wave overwash during winter storms. <br /> o The revetment is used for dinghy storage for accessing the adjacent mooring field <br /> o WHG Professional Engineer on-site said it's in "Fair to poor condition" <br /> o Maintenance being undertaken by DPW,spreading loose cobble and pebbles to fill in <br /> gaps at top of revetment. <br /> o The use of small pebbles should be discontinued as they are not being retained(see left <br /> figure) <br /> o Larger chinking stone would be better—4-6"or 6-12"to fill gaps and prevent washout. <br /> o Toe stones should be buried several feet below grade to prevent undermining and <br /> destabilization of the structure. <br /> o Note use of homemade skids to prevent the revetment from damaging dinghies.
