Mrs. Fisher recommended that UHI also reach out to The Barnstable Clean Waters
group and Nicole Corbett who has been working within Popponesset Bay over the years
specifically around jellyfish and seaweed species within the area.
Mr. Lehrer will add a request to interview option for both the Planning Board and
Conservation Commission members to each of their future agendas.
• Discussions around Waquoit Bay Area of Critical Environmental Concern:
WBNERR— Contact and Involvement
An Area of Critical Environmental Concern Resource Management Plan will be
included as one of the action items within our plan. The committee will need to find
documentation as it relates to the initial request to create this area designation within
Waquoit Bay. Why was the ACEC created? Who initiated in the process and lead the
charge? Mr. Lehrer claimed he may have supporting documentation available within the
Town Planning office, and that he would forward those documents along to UHI and
Mrs. Fisher,
Ms. Fisher asked the group whether or not the Mashpee Friends of the National Wildlife
Refuge should be included in this process. There was discussion around whether or not
they have been involved in any projects within their bounds as they may related to the
areas within the bounds of the ACEC. Confirmation is needed from either the
Conservation Commission or Conservation Agent. Follow up with Mr. McManus is
necessary at a future committee meeting.
UHI and Mrs. Fisher are scheduled to meet with Tonna-Marie Rogers, the Reserve
Manager, within the next couple of weeks to discuss any concerns that the Waquoit Bay
National Estuarine Research Reserve may have within our Harbor Management
Planning area. Mr. Tomaino mentioned that he should be present at the time of the
interview to discuss future dredging plans and projects that are still in the process of
receiving their permits.
• Ancient Ways to Water :
Open Space and Recreation Plan—Status on future planning
Recently, the Environmental Oversight Committee has submitted a request to the
Commmunity Preservation Committee to fund an updated Town-wide Open Space and
Recreation Plan. This plan will allow the Town to utilize state funds to acquire open
space and potentially more points of access to water. As part of the planning effort,
open space and unbuildable lots will be surveyed and the Town can then decide to
acquire them or convert them to open space with a conservation restriction. This is a
topic that should also be covered under the Harbor Management Plan as it relates to
public access.
Easements
