Article 17 <br />To see if the Town will vote to create a permanent full-time Police Officer position within the Mashpee <br />Police Department (40 hours per week) with said position to be classified under the MASS C.O.P. Local <br />324, Unit A (Patrol Officers and Detectives) Step 1, to be effective July 1, 2024, and to appropriate and <br />transfer the sum of $132,544 from revenue available for appropriation with said funds to be distributed as <br />follows: $81,435 to the Mashpee Police Department Police Salaries Account; $1,181 to the Medicare <br />Account; $30,113 for the Town's portion of health insurance; $35 for the Town's portion of life insurance; <br />and $19,780 to Barnstable County Retirement or take any other action relating thereto. <br />Submitted by the Police Department <br />Explanation: This article will create and fund a full-time Police Officer within the Police Department. <br />Due to increased population, increased call volume, and patrol workload, additional staffing is required. <br />The Select Board recommends approval of Article 17 by a vote of 4-0 <br />The Finance Committee recommends approval of Article 17 by a vote of 7-0 <br />Motion made by Select Board Member Sherman <br />Motion: I move that the Town vote to approve Article 17 as printed in the Warrant, with the <br />exception of the phrase "or take any other action relating thereto." <br />Motion passes 289 to 24 at 8:36PM <br />Article 18 <br />To see if the Town will vote to raise, borrow or transfer from available funds and appropriate the sum of <br />$596,056 to provide for road improvement projects under the Chapter 90 program, or take any other action <br />relating thereto. <br />Submitted by the Department of Public Works <br />Explanation: This article authorizes use of funds which will be 100% reimbursed by the Commonwealth <br />of Massachusetts. The budget approved each fiscal year by the Legislature and Governor establishes the <br />total funding available for Chapter 90 local transportation aid for that year. These funds are then <br />apportioned to the 351 Massachusetts towns and cities. The funding authorized by this article is the <br />maximum anticipated Town's share of the FY25 Chapter 90 program. This article requires a 2/3 vote. <br />The Select Board recommends approval of Article 18 by a vote of 4-0 <br />The Finance Committee recommends approval of Article 18 by a vote of 6-0 <br />Motion made by Select Board Member Weeden <br />Motion: I move that the Town vote to appropriate the sum of $596,056 to provide for road <br />improvement projects in and for the Town, in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 90 of the <br />Massachusetts General Laws, and to authorize the Treasurer, with the approval of the Select Board, <br />to borrow said sum of $596,056 under and pursuant to the provisions of M.G.L., Chapter 44, sections <br />7 & 8, or any other enabling authority, and to issue bonds and notes of the Town therefor. <br />Motion passes 284 to 9 at 8:38PM <br />
