*CHARTER REVIEW COMMITTEE MINUTES Monday, April 8, 2024* 3
found workarounds to the only do it once ritual, but it's not statistically significant. And of course,
we still have the paper versions to be collected at some point in the future. There continues to
be promotion of it through social media and other means. There is an ad in the enterprise and
last week's paper. But I think we're at the point that we should decide when to start winding
things down. And I was thinking that perhaps if we. Planned on running it through the 20th. That
would give us. Reasonable opportunity to collate the results and put together a summary report.
So we'd have it for our meeting and discussion on the 29th. Most of the electronic version interest
would probably be largely exhausted by then, and I'm sure the library and the Senior Center and
the town hall would like to recapture their counter space for other worthwhile.
John Miller will collect the paper copies of the survey on April 22"d. Kathy Mahoney will take the
paper copies and start collating comments and tallying those responses.
Library Trustees Section 3.5
John Miller mentioned a topic that came up at the last meeting regarding the number of Library
Trustees being seven. The Town Manager was going to get in touch with the Library Director and
get back to the Committee.
Don Myers said his question is still why seven if that's the only board or committee in the whole
town?
Greg McKelvey also asked how long it's been seven.
The Committee continued the discussion about the history of the number of Library Trustees,
this dates back to when the library was in the building across the street, and it it's when it
expanded to a subsequent location and it was felt apparently at the time that the board of
trustees would be more representative of the town if there were greater diversity of people on
it. So I think originally there were three. Then it went to five and then now it's seven.
Don Myers said that's interesting. If the rationale was diversity. It's interesting that that's the
anomaly in our constituency and if the rationale truly is diversity, then it opens up the Pandora's
Box in regard to well, why aren't we? Doing the same for other boards and committees also, if
that's the reason.
The consensus was to add the topic to actions to be considered.
Updated Review Spreadsheet Status
The spreadsheet will be updated for the next meeting. The Committee was distributed copies of
the list of parking lot items and updated list of what the Committee has taken action on.
John Miller also updated the Committee regarding the Town Clerk attending the meeting, saying
he got a note from her saying that she withdrew that request and would not be here tonight. So.
I guess we're. Moving ahead without further input at this time.
