The plan is to replace these trees with 10 new ones. Additionally, there will be some
disturbance within the 75' buffer zone, which will include extending the existing patio by 151 sq
ft, adding 2 sets of steps to existing walkway, and planting approximately 743 sq ft of mitigation
plantings.
COMMISSIONERS COMMENTS
• The discussion centered around the reasoning behind the removal of diseased trees.
o Mr. Gaudeau explained the decision based on the unknown nature of the disease
and referred to UMass Extension studies to support the removal.
• Concerns were raised about leaving stumps and the potential impact of the beech tree leaf
disease if left untreated.
o Mr. Gaudeau addressed these concerns and offered his understanding of the
disease.
• Clarification was sought regarding the location of proposed mitigation plantings, which
were not within close proximity to the recommended resource area.
• Although no mitigation was proposed in that area, the applicant expressed willingness to
provide a revised plan to accommodate the request.
• Lastly, it was noted that one of the proposed oak trees was not located on the subject site,
but there was a letter of approval from the neighbor for its removal, which would be
submitted to the Conservation Agent.
12
