IMP. IMBO
d"fr,,{ynr,fw VhP.
w Mashpee lncCusion and'Diversity Committee
16 Great Weck RoadWorth
'Alashyee, AMA 02649
Chair received an invitation from interim Superintendent Thompson to discuss what MIDC
does. They were looking through a school lens, regarding limitations on confidentiality
requirements, and sometimes there are limits to what can be revealed. There must be
confidence in the organizations that we have. Not everything can be discussed but know they
are doing the right thing.
In speaking with Chief Carline on August 6th, Chair learned there are laws that say Police
Departments must have a civil rights component and trainings. Mike Moulis took on that duty
for Mashpee and came aboard as an MIDC member. He will speak at the next meeting to fill
everyone in on this training. She would like the Coalition to speak to Police Chiefs. DEI is
under attack, it is not popular in certain areas, notably politics.
Ms. Stevenson got a call from the Town Manager to attend the Select Board meeting on
August 12th. The Select Board had been given the article proposal. The School Committee was
represented by Chair Don Meyers. The article was postponed. We have until February to
come up with an article that makes sense for the Town for May Town Meeting.
Kim Landry inquired about"we", is that the Committee, or a representative that works together
alongside the school. Ms. Stevenson sees two functions here, a response team for incidents
and an inclusion committee. Chair Stevenson sees that this Committee can be strengthened,
they are asking for support in the schools, and we can ask for support too.
Richard Klein sees one function, that being the town gives the MIDC more responsibility, or the
opportunity to work with the school itself. Why is there a need to appoint another committee?
After seeing the meeting, it did not appear the Select Board was favorable towards starting a
new committee, as there is already one established. Communication has been ongoing with
the schools, agencies that back us, and the Mashpee Police Department. If people remain
active, the town can give more monetary support. In a crisis, we could establish a hotline when
something happens.
Hope Hanscom commented the School Committee voted to appoint her to this Committee, and
she is so grateful and happy to be a part of it. She is here as a MIDC member, she is not here
representing the School Committee.
Chair noted Everything is about communication; we should be asked to provide reports
quarterly to the Select Board.
3
