Rep:Mashpee Department of Public Works (Cont.
7/28/22 for DEP#)
iud lau° l indeiir
Ms. Fisher, a representative from the Department of Natural Resources, presents the
proposal on behalf of the Department of Public Works. She explains that the location was chosen
for the one-permit design that had gone through funding with the Municipal Vulnerability
Preparedness Program. An inventory of Santuit Pond was completed by the Municipal
Vulnerability Preparedness Program and their consultant on the stormwater issues. An entire
survey was completed based on elevation and slope, which resulted in this location being of high
priority. Additionally, the MVP consultants identified a total of 20 locations, with 3 being of
high priority. Ms. Fisher states that the decision to start at this location was cumulative. She
notes that the town does own the land and that this will be the first step of many to beautify the
area, as well as looking for funding for the town landing location. She reads a synopsis of a
statement on the design submitted by the consultant to the Commissioners.
COMMISSIONERS COMMENTS
Mr. O'Neil asks for clarification regarding the topography discrepancy between what is
found online and what has been submitted. Additional deliberation ensued.
Ms. Zollo asks if the DEP number has been given yet. Mr. O'Neil states as of yet there
has been no number given.
The Commissioner's continue their deliberation regarding the location for the clearing of the site.
PUBLIC COMMENTS
Mr. Brian Everett, the abutter at 77 Forest Drive, expresses his concerns regarding the
proposed project and requests clarification on the reasoning behind it. She emphasizes that these issues do not arise
overnight. Roadblocks have been encountered regarding stormwater improvements, treatments,
and the activation of Santuit Pond. Attempts to address the pond's issues have been made in the
past without resolution.
AGENT COMMENTS
Mr. McManus highlights the bottom line and his most poignant point to make: the town
is exploring every aspect or possibility of improving water quality on Santuit Pond. As Ms.
Fisher has stated, it's not going to happen overnight. It takes studies and time to vet out the most
8
