MINUTES May 5, 1994 3 BOARD OF HEALTH
Mr. McQuaid informed Mr. Grassetti that he would like to
be present when the pumps are installed.
Mr. Grassetti agreed.
WATER ISSUE - Mr. Grassetti stated, "We have been working
with the town of Barnstable in getting an easement to run a
line from Route 28 through their land, (Water Co. ) to a water
main in Stratford Ponds. " "Once we receive approval for the
easement the Mashpee Water District will approve water in-
stallation. " "We will not discontinue well use immediately
as we would like to utilize it for irrigation purposes how-
ever, once the lines are installed we will cap the wells. "
Mr. McQuaid recommended Mr. Grassetti indicate in writ-
ing deadlines on the water issue, pump situation and drain-
age problem.
Mr. Grassetti agreed.
APPOINTMENT: John Roland - (A.W.T. Environmental) re:
Bio-Clere system
Mr. Roland was in attendance for this scheduled appoint-
ment.
Mr. Doherty informed Mr. Roland, "The Board is consider-
ing all the new innovative technology for wastewater treat-
ment systems. " "The Board is of the opinion that in order to
get the new systems out there must be a gain for the
homeowner. " "We are considering local variance relief for
the installation of a new innovative system. " "One of the
issues that came up was disinfection, whether the Bio-clere
system could be fitted with ultraviolet or chlorine disinfec-
tion. "
Mr. Roland stated, "The Bio-clere unit is a secondary
wastewater treatment. " "When we are talking disinfection
we're getting into the area of tertiary treatment. " "Al-
though we are not tertiary we do have reduction. " "Fecal
coliform reduction, we are N.S.F. approved, averaged about
75% . " "It brings in viral reduction also using Title V or 4'
of permeable soil between the bottom of the leaching facility
and groundwater. "
Mr. McQuaid commented, "Tertiary means removing the
pathogens not just viral but bacterial . " "Can you adopt your
system to include the tertiary treatment to rid most if not
all of the pathogens?"
k Mr. Roland responded, "Yes, we can do that. " "Defeo,
Waite and Pere designed and installed a system in Cohasset,
