+ ,r
MINUTES February 9, 1995 2 BOARD OF HEALTH
Mr. Rowland responded, "The smallest is 900 gallons, we would prefer to have
1500 or 2000 gallons."
Mr. Ball questioned maintenance.
Mr. Rowland responded, "Pumping and the air blower." "There is only one
moving part, the air blower." "The system is gravity fed." "If electricity is lost the system
would revert back to Title V." "The system is fully alarmed and monitored." "The system
is rated from 100 gallons per day up to 1000 gallons per day."
Mr. Doherty commented, "Then we're looking at year round homes, not
necessarily seasonal." r
Mr. Rowland stated, "I would say a seasonal if it was a six month season."
Mr. Dunlap stated, "It takes about seven days to fully charge or get this thing
going." "If you have a situation where it is a weekend cottage, one of the advantages of a
submerged media is that it will retain the biogrowth over that week span." "It's very good
at taking shock loadings." "It's good for resorts, restaurants and places that have a
fluctuation in loadings." "If your going to shut down for a six month period and have no
flow then what you are really doing is reverting back to a septic tank."
Mr. McQuaid questioned, "Do you have data substantiating your nitrogen
reduction?"
Mr. Rowland responded, "Yes, NSF did it." (Mr. Rowland presented the NSF
report.)
Mr. McQuaid questioned Mr. Rowland, "Do you have something from D.E_P.
indicating their approval."
Mr. Rowland responded, "We do, but it is basically out for comment." "I would
prefer that it be published first."
Mr. Dunlap stated, "In Cohasset all the units are being designed with the UV
system in it."
Mr. Ball requested a copy of the results.
