MINUTES May 18, 1995 2 BOARD OF HEALTH <br /> Mr. Cram motioned to approve the Executive Session minutes of May 11, 1995, <br /> Mr. Ball seconded, all agreed. <br /> APPOINTMENT: Tobacco Control Program - Update <br /> Ms, Holly O'Brien and Mr. Bob Collett were in attendance for this scheduled <br /> appointment. <br /> Mr. Collett stated, "I have not come into town without informing the health <br /> agents." "I did inform Mr. Evans of a signage check I did at the stores on April 28, 1995." <br /> "Mr. Evans did ask me not to be aggressive." "That is not my approach." "I go in and <br /> hand them a package with the law and a copy of the-sign if they do not have it." "Out of <br /> the eleven tobacco merchants I visited in town seven were in compliance." "Two of the <br /> stores were brand new." "The main focus of our charge is to provide some educational <br /> things for residents on the Cape." "We have been invited to participate in a health and <br /> safety exposition." "We are involved with the Cape Cod Crusaders." "I wondered if the <br /> Board would be receptive to having a couple of the players come in and speak to the <br /> kids." <br /> Board members agreed to the request. <br /> Mr. McQuaid suggested Mr. Collett contact Officer Dottridge to obtain <br /> permission. <br /> Mr. Collett questioned, " Would the Board be interested in setting up a smoking <br /> cessation program?" "We will hold the program for any number of participants." "We <br /> would require a room." "There is another project we have embarked on and that has to <br /> do with possibly approaching dentist and physicians in the area to see if they can step up <br /> their efforts in the cessation movement." "It was initiated by the State Department of <br /> Public Health and they have supposedly contacted all the physicians in the area with a <br /> letter and package of materials." <br /> Ms. O'Brien stated, "We will be visiting them to see if they want additional <br /> materials." <br /> Mr. Collett commented, "We are developing a list of smoke-free things to do on <br /> Cape Cod." "We are going to try and get involved with the Chambers of Commerce." <br />
