MINUTES July 15, 1999 3 BOARD OF HEALTH
Mr. Marchessault added, "The fact sheet was a joint fact sheet developed by AFCEE,
EPA and.DEP. We all reviewed it. We all commented on it and this is what we all feel
was adequate.'
Mr. Minior stated, "The levels of contaminants that were detected in the pond are
below the safe drinking water levels so, therefore, if you can drink the water why
should you be concerned with swimming in it or using the pond for recreation?"
Mr. McQuaid stated, "That is the exact same attitude that the DEP has and that is
shared by-the Sandwich Health Agent and myself with regard to the J. Braden
Thompson plume. If it is still safe to drink the water, why post Mashpee-Wakeby
pond. I feel the exact same way with regard to posting John's Pond with the data we
have."
Mr. Doherty stated, "Normally when everything is fine, we post in order to broadcast a
warning. I think a lot of people are concerned and might have some questions in their
minds. I don't,really see any harm in this. It might be a service to the people to tell
them that everything is okay. We're also giving them a source for additional
information if they want to follow up on it. I believe there is some benefit to be derived
from it."
Mr. Cram stated, "I would like to see some sort of confirmation that AFCEE, DEP and
EPA are all in agreement with the .content of the fact sheet."
Mr. Doherty requested, "Can we get a copy of the minutes and the vote on this? If we
have that on file showing the organizations who approved it, that would be fine."
The Board asked to continue this item until after the receipt of the minutes from
AFCEE regarding the vote from the various organizations involved.
2. Approve minutes of July 1, 1999 meeting. No minutes were available for approval.
3. Request for transfer of funds — solid waste account
Board acknowledged.
4. Letter to DEP re: Landfill closure grant
Board acknowledged.
S. Proposed BOH Town Meeting Article
Mr. Cram motioned to submit the article requesting a part time clerk for the Board
of Health to Town Meeting vote. Mr. Doherty seconded the motion. Motion passed.
6. Proposed Town Clerk Article
Board requested Town Clerk Debbie Dami to attend the next scheduled Board of
Health meeting to discuss this article.
7.
