4
not have problem with the owner. She does have a problem when it becomes a
health problem.
Last weekend the flies were unbelievable. She can never give a cookout or a picnic.
If they do, the food has to be inside and the kids cannot come in and out or she
will have a house full of flies. Flies as you know are derived from maggots. She
believes that they are absolutely filthy. Given the fact that last weekend the
summer was over and it was a little cool. She decided that she would give her
sister a birthday party. She had five pans of food out on the deck with friends and
family over. The flies took over with 4 or 5 on top of each other. The food went in to
the garbage and guests left within a period of 45 minutes. When they were getting
into the cars they started screaming at her about the flies in the car. She felt
embarrassed. She knows there are files and there is nothing she can do about it.
Sunday she left her grandmother on the deck because she wanted some fresh air.
The horses weren't out there and she had just had her nebulizer treatment. She
didn't want the oxygen anymore. She went down to an antique place on Rte 151 to
an antique place for about 45 minutes. Her and her husband came back, found
her grandmother, sitting still on the deck, no exaggeration, her right hand to God,
with at least 50 dead flies around her that she had killed. It doesn't matter how
many you kill. They just continue to come. It's like you haven't put a dent in it.
She went over to Ocean State Job Lot, in Falmouth, to purchase the fly tape. It's
nasty looking but at least it should get rid of some of them. That did work. But,
there hasn't been a day that anyone in the family can sit outside without a
flyswatter in hand. She can take dust, odors and just about anything but these
flies. You don't want to eat anything. Mr. Harrington did come out but it was cool
and raining which puts a damper on the flies. Over the weekend prior to him
coming out, because she did call him, you could not open the door. She doesn't
know anyone that has a decent backyard that you could not go out ever. You could
never open a window or hang clothes. That was her only chief complaint. It is
pretty sad because it is her property. She owns it. She has nothing against her
personally. But, the fact remains that the houses are very close to this place and
she foresees always having a problem. Both Mr. and Mrs. Murphy have said to her
that if she has ever had a problem to please come to her. They have been very
courteous. But the flies topped it all off.
Mr. Doherty then asked the next person to speak.
Mr. Herrera stated that the last couple of weeks that it has been warm. He leaves
his windows up at night. But, he lowers them to let the heat out. However, by the
time he gets to Cape Cod Hospital he still has 5 flies in his car.
Mrs. Herrera interjected that it was just horrible that you really would have to see
it to believe. Mr. Harrington did witness some of it. Roni (Veronica Warden, health
agent) the girl that works here. She knows for a fact that she called on Monday
several times and there was no answer. She kept getting a beeping noise like
something was wrong with the answering machine. She got in her car and came
down to the town hall. She met Ms. Warden in the stairwell and asked her where
