for kitchen equipment. The budgeted amount of $42,500 for kitchen equipment includes the cost for
installation, which explains the discrepancy from the$39,847 donation amount. Installation costs will be
billed separately when the exact amount is determined.
Sharon reported that the required quarterly report to DACD had been sent out. She further stated that
payroll items received from the contractor for subcontractors had some minor issues to be resolved. A
letter has been sent to the general contractor, and the issues are in the process of being addressed.
Site Meeting.
Iry reported the following items to be done in the near future:
- the roofing work is slightly behind due to the inclement weather but will catch up
- pillars in the back of the building that were improperly fabricated are being replaced. They will be
repoured next week.
electricity and lighting for the parking lot will be installed
gravel will be brought in for the driveway
SELECTION BOARDS
Jim Long reported that the furnishings sub-committee has had several meetings during the past weeks.
The committee is comprised of 3 professional decorators, and 9 non-professionals. Tom O'Neill, one of
the professionals, presented the committee the following report:
The original color boards submitted by JCA contained greens, yellows and blues, cool colors. The
consensus of the subcommittee was that the board should be replaced with one containing warmer colors
that are less commercial looking and more friendly. JCA recommended that a darker contrast color be
used for the trim around the doorways and chair rails, for safety reasons. The subcommittee has
disagreed with this decision, favoring lighter colors to match the interior. At the suggestion of JCA, the
subcommittee agreed to have just one salmon-colored wall in the ladies' room instead of all four walls.
The handicapped rest room will have blue gray walls, not salmon.
Betty Nichols moved that the committee accept the revised color boards recommended by the furniture
subcommittee. Ed Adams seconded the motion. The building committee unanimously approved the
motion. A memo will be sent from the building committee to Joyce Mason, to be transmitted to JCA,
indicating the committee's approval of the revised color board selections.
STUDY PROJECTS
Furnishings. Jim Long reported that the subcommittee will be meeting in the near future to select the
chairs, tables and other furnishings for the new center, now that the colors have been approved.
Landscaping. Ed Adams reported that a suggestion of a meditation area be considered for inclusion on
the new senior center grounds. Jim Long suggested that the $1000 donation in memory of James
Gorney might be applied toward the development of a meditation area.
The landscape subcommittee, comprised of Ed Adams, Ellis Allen, and Dick and Jane Capoletti, has
come up with a revised landscape plan that reduces the cost to $21,000, installed. The Mashpee
Commons has been consulted as to their contribution to the landscaping work. (See Attachment B for
Mashpee Commons landscape plan they would implement). They have agreed to dig the well and
install the irrigation system. They have requested a meeting with the landscape committee in order to
coordinate the overall landscape plan. Bud Abbott agreed to contact the Mashpee Commons to set a
meeting date. June 9`h, with a backup date of June 16th, was the choice of dates selected by the
landscape committee for such a meeting. Location of the meeting is to be determined.
Ellis Allen stated that there is an opportunity to have all trees that are donated to be planted free of
charge. Final approval of acceptance of trees that are donated will be at the discretion of the landscape
committee. Ed Adams suggested putting a notice in the Senior Dimension newsletter, asking for
donations of trees. These donations would be tax deductible.
2
