;F
TOWN OF MASHPEE
SENIOR CENTER BUILDING COMMITTEE
Minutes of the Meeting of Monday, August 9, 2004
Committee Attendees: Also Attending:
Irving Goldberg Ernest Virgilio, Clerk of the Works
Ed Adams Jim Long, COA Director
Jean Noussee Joyce Mason, Town Manager
Betty Nichols
Harold Klegman
Art Weinstein
Chairman Irving Goldberg called the meeting to order at 1:30 PM.
REVIEW OF MINUTES
The committee unanimously approved the minutes of the meeting of July 26, 2004.
BILLS
Chairman Irving Goldberg reported receipt of the following bills:
1. Clerk of the Works, $1,840.00, for 46 hours of work for the period July 26 through August 6.
2. Prescott, $205.61 for underground pipes for irrigation.
Mr. Virgilio commented that the subcontractor installed the irrigation pipes at no charge. We supplied the
materials, but he did the installation. The estimated cost of the installation: 280 ft. @$5.00 per ft. Mr. Virgilio
will ask the subcontractor if he would like a letter from the committee for purposes of an income tax deduction.
REPORTS
Clerk of the Works
- Audio wiring will be installed next week.
- Over-all building construction, labor, materials, supervision are very good. The contractor stays on top
of his subcontractors.
- Doing well inspection-wise, which is a real big jump. Rough sprinkler system and rough gas are to be
tested and approved.
- Building Inspector visited the site and made it clear what is to be done. The Building Inspector is to
come back Friday to be sure no way water can come in, so Skylight area has to be secured. If the
conditions are met, then the Building Inspector will allow to sheet rock the walls.
- Contractor will plaster sheet rock at no extra charge.
- 95% of underground work done.
- Skylight to be ready end of August or beginning of September.
- Trailers have been moved off-site so site work can continue now.
- Water has been chlorinated and tested so it can be used in plastering the walls.
Problems:
- Framing is incomplete.
- Days of work to be done because of what's incomplete.
- No inspections failed, but the contractor was given a list of things to do.
- Finish takes a long time.
- Estimated completion time is now December. The next 3 weeks are critical.
Add Alternate Issues.
- Because of the grant, the committee is required to inform Keyspan of building progress. Iry will notify
them.
- Fireplace and casework installation. An estimated cost of$8,600 was given. The original estimate of
$8,122 included everything, but now this cost is for"pieces". This increase drives us out-of-budget. Iry
1
