TOWN OF MASHPEE <br /> SENIOR CENTER BUILDING COMMITTEE <br /> Minutes of the Meeting of March 1, 2004 <br /> Committee Attendees: Also Attending: <br /> Irving Goldberg Joyce Mason, Town Administrator <br /> Jean Noussee Mart Sapers, FMSC <br /> Betty Nichols Ernest Virgilio, Clerk of the Works <br /> Harold Klegman <br /> Ed Adams <br /> Chairman Irving Goldberg called the meeting to order at 1:30 PM. <br /> REVIEW OF 2/09/04 MINUTES <br /> The committee unanimously approved the minutes of the meeting held on February 9, 2004. <br /> CONSTRUCTION. Irving Goldberg reported that a contractor's bill had been received from the <br /> Clerk of the Works for the amount of$58,330. He further stated that Mr. Virgilio was a firm fixed <br /> price person. The contractor has prepared a spending profile for the contract. Joyce Mason will <br /> forward a copy to Irv. Mr. Virgilio and Iry Goldberg agreed that the contractor is doing a good job. <br /> Ernie remarked that the sign of a good contractor is the request for information. He has obviously <br /> spent a lot of time studying the plans, and asks a lot of questions regarding the design plans in <br /> order to gain a better understanding of the drawings and specifications. <br /> CLERK/CONTRACTOR BILLS. Harold Klegman made a motion to approve payment of the <br /> following two bills: $2,520. to the Clerk of the Works; and $58,330 to the contractor. Betty <br /> Nichols seconded the motion. The committee unanimously approved the motion. <br /> REPORTS. <br /> Clerk of the Works. Iry passed around a copy of the Clerk of the Works report covering the <br /> period from Monday, February 2, 2004 through Friday, February 20, 2004. Copies of the report <br /> are available for all committee members who are interested. The recording secretary is archiving <br /> all Clerk of the Works reports as they are received. Ernie stated that once he gets his computer <br /> program set up at the site trailer, the reports will become more comprehensive. <br /> Ernie reported that the contractor and the subcontractors are doing a good job. The recharged <br /> water system is almost in place. The system seems quite efficient, and exceeds its design. By <br /> the end of next week all the foundation may be in except for the opening in the back side that is <br /> left open for easy access. Ernie warned that it is inevitable that there will be cement cracks in the <br /> floor. The electricity is expected to be installed in two weeks. <br /> Harold Klegman asked about what steps had been taken to avoid termite damage. Ernie <br /> reported that a 3-year chemical protection will be applied to the soil around the perimeter of the <br /> foundation, except under the slab. Harold suggested that the sill and studs should be pressure <br /> treated. Iry ageed to investigate the cost of treating the soil underneath the slab. <br /> Grant Manager. Joyce Mason reported for Sharon Travers-Gay that all the grant drawdowns are <br /> being done in a timely manner. If any problems surface, she will keep the committee informed. <br /> Site Meeting. Iry attended the site meeting held Monday morning, March 1. He reported that <br /> Nstar is in the process of designing the permanent power connection, and will probably take <br /> another couple of weeks to complete. The foundation will be in place, except for the break in the <br /> back, by Friday, March 12th. The construction process is moving along very well, and has been <br /> 1 <br />
