LEISURE SERVICES ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING APRIL 7, 1998 MASHPEE TOWN HALL - 6:30 PM Present: Also Present: Sheila Arnold Ken Marsters Gus Frederick Kim Whitney Scott Chausse Robert Whritenour Pat Riley Terrie Cook Pat Antonellis I. Opening: Sheila Arnold opened the meeting at 6:35 PM II. Minutes: Pat Riley made a motion to approve the minutes of March, and Kim Whitney seconded. Motion carried. III. Communications: a. 21s' Century Learning Centers - Leisure Services, School, Indian Ed, Tribal Council, Adult Lit working to develop after school activities for children 8 through 18. There is a 40 million dollar pilot program by Mott foundation. There will be an increase next year. This would include programs during the summer. The school is interested in developing program for 18 years old and above. Will give GED and job training skills. b. Letter regarding discussion we had at last meeting regarding Town Hall Door -We have approval to utilize this door. We would like to mark it so people know they can use the door to get to Leisure Service's office. c. Letter - Gus Frederick read over a recent letter the office received regarding the great work of Peggy Geary and her group. The Kids Klub Pre-school show was great. It is on tape. Shiela Arnold mentioned putting the tape over at the library. IV. Old Business - a. Facility Usage - Sheila Arnold began discussion regarding the reduction in the number of programs being offered. Some people would like to see a return to the Community School concept. Robert Whritenour thought it was a good meeting between the Selectmen and the School Committee last week and that a pretty good agreement was established. However, too many things were put on the agenda to discuss in one night. He was surprised at the letter from the School Committee stating that they had been waiting so long to have this meeting. We have had a few meetings after the agreement was signed. The
