LEISURE SERVICES ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING <br />APRIL 7, 1998 <br />MASHPEE TOWN HALL - 6:30 PM <br />Present: Also Present: <br />Sheila Arnold Ken Marsters Gus Frederick <br />Kim Whitney Scott Chausse Robert Whritenour <br />Pat Riley <br />Terrie Cook <br />Pat Antonellis <br />I. Opening: Sheila Arnold opened the meeting at 6:35 PM <br />II. Minutes: Pat Riley made a motion to approve the minutes of March, and Kim <br />Whitney seconded. Motion carried. <br />III. Communications: <br />a. 21s' Century Learning Centers - Leisure Services, School, Indian Ed, Tribal <br />Council, Adult Lit working to develop after school activities for children 8 <br />through 18. There is a 40 million dollar pilot program by Mott foundation. There <br />will be an increase next year. This would include programs during the summer. <br />The school is interested in developing program for 18 years old and above. Will <br />give GED and job training skills. <br />b. Letter regarding discussion we had at last meeting regarding Town Hall <br />Door -We have approval to utilize this door. We would like to mark it so people <br />know they can use the door to get to Leisure Service's office. <br />c. Letter - Gus Frederick read over a recent letter the office received regarding <br />the great work of Peggy Geary and her group. The Kids Klub Pre-school show <br />was great. It is on tape. Shiela Arnold mentioned putting the tape over at the <br />library. <br />IV. Old Business - <br />a. Facility Usage - Sheila Arnold began discussion regarding the reduction in <br />the number of programs being offered. Some people would like to see a return <br />to the Community School concept. Robert Whritenour thought it was a good <br />meeting between the Selectmen and the School Committee last week and that <br />a pretty good agreement was established. However, too many things were put <br />on the agenda to discuss in one night. He was surprised at the letter from the <br />School Committee stating that they had been waiting so long to have this <br />meeting. We have had a few meetings after the agreement was signed.
