School Committee and Leisure Services wanted to work together and get to <br />other issues. Board of Selectmen were surprised about complaints. They felt <br />that in recent meetings with the principals, everyone seemed very supportive. <br />They had very specific issues, namely: <br />1. Supervision at the High School. <br />2. Supervision at after-school between the hours of 3:30 and 6:00 PM. <br />3. Looking for rooms and trying to get into them. <br />We found out that one of they key problems was that the company that does the <br />cleaning had the responsibility of opening and closing rooms. They were not <br />available to do this. Tried to resolve present problems. John Williams and Dr. <br />DeMoura believed issue was access and supervision. Gus Frederick now has key to <br />access rooms. Discussion regarding number of programs took place. Selectmen <br />would like to see continued growth. Would like to increase educational programs, <br />and have a bigger array of programs with fees higher like the other areas. <br />Robert Whritenour again went over the importance of (1) supervision and (2) <br />scheduling. Mentioned that 3:30 - 6:00 PM time -frame needs supervision. There is a <br />need to avoid people trying to locate rooms. He mentioned a problem with someone <br />who snuck into the building. Robert Whritenour would like to see Committee <br />working with Gus so that we can expand programs and supervision. Robert <br />Whritenour's concerns are not with scheduling but with programs. He said that the <br />people at the school are happy with the direction things are going in. <br />Sheila Arnold mentioned the Job Fair where we could set up a booth and advertise <br />for instructors for our programs. Terrie Cook wanted to know if we posted any of <br />these jobs. Gus Frederick said that we had spoken to some of the teachers, and an ad <br />went into the Cape Cod Times and the Mashpee Enterprise. Gus mentioned that we <br />pay between $15.00 and $20.00 per hour. We run programs with some of the teachers <br />and many of them want $25.00 per hour. Some also want to limit the class to 10. <br />This would mean we would have to charge a lot for the program. <br />Sheila Arnold also mentioned that we should advertise for specific programs. She <br />mentioned a Master Gardener's Class that is quite popular. We should look at <br />popular programs that have waiting lists and run a similar class. Sheila suggested we <br />do a survey during Daffodil Days to see what programs the community is interested <br />in. <br />Gus Frederick indicated that we have been looking at other schools and what they <br />run, and we put an ad in the paper for a pottery instructor and got an instructor for that <br />program. We have been trying to expand our computer classes, and we put an ad in <br />the paper for a computer instructor. We now have an additional instructor, Joy Pell. <br />We are now adding 3 or 4 more classes in computers. We will be offering graduate <br />classes this summer. We have been in contact with Suffolk and will do classes in the <br />
