Center site is houses. Town meeting turned down buying that land
in 1988. The school will only use 60 of the 160-180 acres of
land. This is the most realistic way to preserve the land .
Bill Martiros stated if they want the land preserved there has to
be another avenue because the town turned it down . Go to the
State or Federal government for assistance. Keeping a school off
of that land will not preserve it.
Peggy Lillenthaul asked about an alternative site the town had
considered , down near New Seabury?
The Committee explained that property is Conservation land the
request was brought to the Conservation Commission and they said
no.
She asked if the Cons Com knew of these two sites and the
pandoras box they were opening; neither site is a good one for a
high school .
The site she is speaking of is part of the Mashpee River
Woodlands which is protected. Steve Greelish stated he presented
this to Cons Com, they gave it due consideration and voted no.
The town has no recourse. Tom Fudala added that property was
only 55 acres and the Committee is looking for more than that. If
that site were chosen , there is no provision that the 2 other
sites would be preserved , they will just be developed with
• houses. What are the reasons you are opposed to this site
because this Committee ' s investigation has not found any.
Ms. Lillenthaul said she is not convinced all the environmental
problems have been looked into.
Ms. Hendricks asked about the time frame, the final report, with
new information will be presented next week and you will vote on
it that same evening, why not push the vote back a week?
Chairman Dinizio explained the Committee' s tight schedule. The
project has already been pushed back 2 months and the school must
be open by Sept. 1996 . The Selectmen have set the schedule.
They need the recommendation so they can vote on it and prepare
the warrant for town meeting with sufficient time to advertise.
Ms . hendricks suggest they go to the Selectmen and ask them to
push this back one week.
Geotechnical - Steve Greelish explained the engineers have walked
the entire site, have been there 2 times , have talked with people
who lived in the area and have aerial photos . They did a
thorough investigation for this level of study . Should the site
be chosen more investigation will be done. There is no
contamination of groundwater within the immediate area of the
Center site.
Acquisition Costs - the Committee is waiting for appraisal
• information which will be available shortly .
David Lillinthaul asked about the schedule?
Next week, Tues Nov . 9 at 7 : 30 the architect will present their
4
