•
Tom has a lot of concerns and the Committee has heard a lot of
concern about the South portion of the site - vegetation there,
wetlands. To respond to concerns we must provide as much
protection as possible. We should leave flexibility to use
northern "plateau" , property which is half commercial and include
it in the article.
Mr . Dinizio stated the Selectmen will make the decision whether
town meeting chooses between the two sites. This Committee went
through all this work and our conclusions lead us someplace. We
have a deadline to meet. If the Selectmen want to change the
rules of the game now, that is their business. Whatever happens
outside of this room is beyond our control .
Ms. Mills agreed the Committee did their job, but hopefully the
Selectmen will stay with the time table.
Mr. Greelish stated there are legal consideration when the town
begins to take the land , that it was done the right way.
That is why he wanted to make his presentation at tonight's
meeting . He does agree that the Center site is the proper site
and that is the way he would have voted. The dividing issue for
him was that the land on 151 will ultimately be preserved. Why
• should we take that land from preservation.
Mr. Dinizio stated there are certain benchmarks the Committee has
to reach and make decisions. He is sorry Mr. Greelish could not
support that tonight.
Mr. Greelish stated his problem was the method . To choreograph a
vote when there was still discussion desired , was not correct.
Mr. Dinizio does not agree. Mr. Greelish could have presented
his information at a previous meeting.
Mr. Greelish presented bonding cost projections. For a $200 ,000
house, it will cost approximately $200 more per year in taxes.
Bob Whritenour is also generating figures on bonding costs.
The Committee asked Dr. DeMoura what the cost will be to operate
the school ?
Dr . DeMoura stated it appears to be less than the cost of sending
the students to Falmouth. He would like to double check it
before giving the Committee a final figure.
What does the Committee want to recommend for land acquisition?
Bill Martiros thinks the Committee should explain to the
Selectmen how low the figures came in from the appraiser as
compared to assessed values .
Mr. Dinizio asked what legal counsel will lead us through this?
• Will it be Town Counsel ?
Tom said that is a good question. Paul O' Leary recommended the
town hire a professional to negotiate.
2
