• The Committee decided to postpone this discussion so they could
meet with the appraiser.
**Mr. Griffin made a motion to postpone this section of
discussion and go into executive session to discuss
appraisals. Ms. Ahlgren seconded the motion . All members
were in favor - Ms. Ahlgren , Mr. Griffin , Mr . Dinizio, Mr.
Jones, Ms. Mills , Mr. Polito, Mr . Greelish, Mr. Martiros.
*********
Traffic: The Abend report concluded that either site could
accommodate a high school safely and effectively . The Center
site has the advantage because it is centrally located relative
to the student population .
Ms . Ahlgren noted there has been concern about increased traffic
on So. Sandwich Rd if the Center site is chosen . So. Sandwich Rd
is a major feeder road to the 151 area of town . It will not make
a difference which site the school is on if the students live
near the Center site - they will have to use So. Sandwich Rd
either way .
Mr. Franceschi came to the same conclusion as the 'Abend report,
• either site can be safely developed. What distinguishes them is
the Center site is more central to the student population and
therefore the overall traffic in the town will be lessened. This
makes 151 less attractive from a traffic point of view.
Bill Martiros wants a traffic count for each site - not school
traffic but all other traffic on each road .
Tom thinks they used the wrong numbers in the report. They used
1350 students and that won 't happen for 20 years. It should be
1 ,000.
Ms . Ahlgren noted on pg . 4 it notes the number of students within
1 mile of the school :
Center site is 653 - 48% 151 site - 211 students. They are
using the current Middle School population numbers .
Traffic counts - there is 2 1/2 times more traffic on 151 as
there is on Rte 130 . Mr. Martiros thinks this is a very
important factor.
Mr. Dinizio explained DRA will re-do this matrix to take some of
this information into account. It is significant that 48% of the
students live within 1 mile of the Center site. The amount of
vehicle trips on each road is also significant.
• The Committee discussed the busing issue at length .
Mr. Franceschi discussed his figures and how they were derived .
He already took into account the percentage of students who will
4
