He determined what it would cost
to send 1 ,000 students to Falmouth , in todays dollars, and what
it would cost to educate 1 , 000 students in Mashpee.
It costs $4 , 714 . 77 per student to go to Falmouth. Tuition plus
transportation for 1 ,000 students equals $4, 837 , 770 .
He assumed the average teacher's salary would be $33 , 000, which
is today' s figure . Mashpee' s Jr. /Sr. High School ' s projected
operating budget is $4,056 , 800.
• The teachers benefit package was not included in these figures.
Dr. DeMoura would have to determine the average cost - how many
teachers choose benefits , single vs. family plans for medical
insurance.
Bob Whritenour estimated the town spent $400 , 000 on insurance
benefits for teachers last year.
The Committee agreed, that since the Town will pay for benefits,
they should be added to the operating budget.
The debt service is not included ; that is a real cost to the
town . There is an extra financial burden for the responsibility
of owning our own high school . It will cost a little more to own
a high school .
Increase in tax bills, for the bonding of the cost of the project
will be about 11% for the first year and goes down each year
after that.
Al Polsi suggested an average cost of $4,000 per employee for
medical benefits .
There is also a cost for medicare and workers compensation.
Bob Whritenour will work on getting an average figure to be used
for the cost of an employees benefits.
• 1
