183 , 000 sq feet?
The Committee agreed it is not.
Peter explained the Committee ' s job is to maintain the educational
integrity of the building . The Committee must present intelligent options
to the community and they will decide what they want to do.
Bill Martiros said the State will pay their share of the pool if it is part
of the program, the case has to be made to the public . The auxiliary gym
may be the tradeoff.
The Committee noted the gym and pool are not interchangeable - sq feet or
dollars . The gym is some of the cheapest space.
Ray said a lot of answers will come during next weeks Charrette. They will
look at different ways to accommodate the pool , in the master plan .
Ray said for next weeks ' s Charrette they will need a baseline point to
begin with - hopefully this program is it.
Peter had a comment on page 4 - #5- In the future and likely should be
removed from the sentence so it will now read- Adult education and
recreational programs will be held at the school during evenings , weekends
and summers .
Michael Pare put together 2 paragraphs regarding technology - classroom and
hallways should be outfitted for video distribution and have TV monitors .
The Committee agreed that was what they had talked about.
Ray will add that language to the program.
Should fiber optics be included? Michael said that is an issue for the next
step. How the technology gets there is a separate issue .
- Health Education classrooms should be moved 1 to each house and storage
added for each . Merry Sue said she consulted with Dr . DeMoura on this
issue.
- Placement of TV studio and AV room near the library . Michael Pare would
like to see them moved nearer to the theater. He does not see the
librarian being involved in those areas.
Dr. DeMoura did not have a problem with this .
Ray said he could justify it either way, logically it would be better near
the theater.
(Joan Tavares joined the meeting at 5 : 15 p.m. )
- Indian Education space . Joan said , after speaking with other people ,
they would like to see it near the entrance . She also needs office space
off of the classroom, with a separate door to be locked .
She agreed 150 sq feet of office would be sufficient.
** Merry Sue made a motion that the Committee accept this program as
amended and tell the architects to start designing the building .
Janice seconded the motion . All members were in favor.**
SITE PLAN
The Committee reviewed the athletic fields sketches prepared by the
architects .
3
