Bob Parris added we suggest materials and methods to help keep you within
budget. Since there is a cap on this project, we can project cash flow 2
1/2 years into the future.
Bill Hauck said the State code requires second party review for structural
work , are you capable of that?
Mr. Seaman said they are not, it should be done by an outside structural
engineering firm.
Bill Hauck asked about the HVAC review.
Mr. Seaman said they can tell you if the system is or isn 't enough . If you
want us to do the structural we would hire a consultant to do that.
Bill Hauck said we want to know during the design that the system is
capable, that it will work.
Mr. Seaman said they will have a mechanical engineer review the drawings,
he will know if it is over designed , under designed, what his past
experience with that system has been.
We make sure they are workable and cost effective.
Bill Hauck said if we have a problem pouring concrete for example, it is
bad concrete, how do we stop it? Mr. Seaman said you must have a testing
firm, working for the owner. The tester will tell the clerk of the works
if it is a bad mix, he will tell the project manager and we will send it
back . If it is a large pour of concrete you can ask that the plant owner be
on the job. For steel , you can ask that the steel fabricator do an as
built drawing so it will go in perfectly.
These issues are identifiable early in the process .
Mr. Parris added the project manager helps the architect put together the
submission to the state.
CHARTWELL
Nancy Sullivan , marketing manager for Chartwell introduced everyone .
Shannon Scarlet from Tames and Tony Esteves from Beacon are new to the
team.
Kelly Whalen from Dames & Moore and Bill Catrell were not able to attend
this meeting. Committee members could contact them, if they would like to
speak with them directly.
Ian Aitchison, Project Director and Brian Rowlands, Project Manager.
Shannon Scarlet is a project architect for Tames. She has worked on design
and construction documents for Mass. public schools and has a good idea of
the procedure. She is just completing a similar design review for the US
Courts in White Plains , NY.
Tony Esteves has 21 years experience in the building industry. He will
review the constructability of the project and provide recommendations.
They presented 2 charts, project organization and experience.
Organization: Brian Rowlands and Ian Aitchison will be working with the
Committee and will be directly responsible to them.
