D. Baseball dugout - will it be recessed? Dan said it will not.
E . Tile in the bathroom, use 6x8 it requires less grout. 8x8 for the
floors.
F. Painted not stainless steel fire extinguisher cabinets.
G. Millwork - look at it see it we can purchase cheaper than mill work.
H . Display cases - there are a lot of them.
I . Electric heat tracing cable?
J . Electric baseboard units, electric duct heating coils?
Gym floor - is now wood, middle grade, in both gyms.
Ed recommended keeping both wood.
Still $1 , 100 ,000 over, not counting value added items.
Ed suggested they reconstitute this list and come back with recommendations
for value added.
Site Review.
Dan Solien presented a new plan with changes discussed last week: deleting
fields and 100 parking spaces.
He presented some options for possible cost savings:
- single lane, undivided entry road but he is not sure the savings are too
dramatic because the road would have to be widened.
Committee agreed not to accept this change.
Bus area over academic wing - may be possible to redesign for about $25 , 000
savings. He thinks however, as designed this is a model bus drop off.
Ed said you will have a problem policing parents .
Elimination of the track - because people won't be happy with the cinder
track from day 1 , eliminate it totally.
The cinder track, if designed well , could be a good base. The Committee
agreed to keep it.
Paul said he received a call from Bob Hines regarding a unique sewage
treatment system he has designed . It is not yet Title V approved. Paul
told him to call Elias McQuaid.
The cost for a 50,000 gallon per day system is $600,000 and you don ' t need
a building.
Mr. Hines has had several meetings with DEP and they are intrigued. He has
systems operating all over the country .
A smaller system, he said, would cost about $400 ,000. Because it is a
modular tank system, you add tanks to meet your requirement.
(Peter Dinizio left the meeting )
Paul said he is concerned because every time there is an estimate it has
jumped up further. He is also concerned these cuts may not add up to $3
million in savings. The Committee should agree to proceed but set a
timetable to look at other things to get it down another $200-300, 000 .
** Paul recommended SMMA proceed with Construction Documents with the
understanding that we get the budget down to $20,800 ,000. Everyone agreed.
Ian would like to see a reworked estimate factoring in all of these changes
to have a base to operate from.
11
