Bob Fournier explained there won ' t be a lot of detail for roofs in the
contract documents . All manufacturers have their own details and will only
guarantee their product if those details are used . SMMA develops a
performance spec .
Paul said the details are the problem. With a riled subbid , you can get
undesirable contractors . For insurance you should have an inspector watch
the installation .
Dr . DeMoura said technically they should work but reality is they leak .
The architects will walk away from the project and the School Committee is
responsible for the building for at least 50 more years .
Ed said they will make a recommendation including low and high sloped
roofs ; they are not precluding either one .
Joe said they did not offer the concept of a gabled roof in their design .
The Committee never saw that option . How could that be fashioned into the
concept? A gabled roof would minimize the opportunity for the roof to
leak .
Peter said the bottom line is we hired an architect to come up with a
design . The Committee should trust them to do what is in the best interest
of the Town , trust the technical competency and creativity of the
architects- and allow them leeway to explore .
** Paul made a motion to move the debate . To instruct the architect
to give the Comm-Ittee his best effort on the roofs . Merry Sue
seconded the motion .
Merry Sue added we may have to pay for extra supervision .
All members were in favor .
Berms . Ed presented an entire book on earth berms and their cost . He said
no other architects hired could know more about berms and cost . When they
make their final presentation , it is within their purview to make a
recommendation regarding berms .
SITE PLAN
Peter explained Bob Whritenour expects to have the appraisal work in 2
weeks . The land acquisition subcommittee met yesterday . They will use the
plan Dan is showing today . Fields Point is actively looking at it and will
get back to the subcommittee .
Dan Solien explained the changes he made .
There were concerns about distance from available parking to the
track/football field .
This plan switches the track/football to where tennis was , below a bay of
parking . It is now closer to the bulk of parking . He suggests extending
the row of trees from the gym, down towards the fields, to make it an
important pedestrian corridor through the site. It also becomes a wind
break for the tennis/basketball . There is still parking - 18 spaces -
adjacent to the tennis/basketball .
The perimeter drive now loops over the top of the parking to make safer
7
