conditions for pedestrian circulation .
Ed said with the constantly changing vista, you are more aware of the trees
than the road . This design capitalizes on the site .
Dr. DeMoura is concerned about maintenance required for the plantings .
That should be considered .
Dan has been given that charge ( low maintenance ) by the Committee .
For the next meeting he will have details of the courtyard and area behind
the cafeteria.
Islands in parking lots will be woodchip mulch and native plants .
or . DeMoura said in Sandwich the sidewalks are built large enough to put
snow plows on them.
Dan is showing a curbed walk of 6 feet width .
Steve said most plows are 8 feet .
Dan thinks 8 ft sidewalks are overbuilt and expensive .
Merry Sue questioned the need for sidewalks the entire perimeter .
There were concerns about the amount of snow plowing required . Peter said
only the entry into the building will need to be plowed immediately .
Bill asked about radiant heat?
Paul said it is very expensive . it goes on every time the temperature goes
below 34 degrees . It is a luxury the school department can ' t afford .
Dan suggested talking about all the walkways when the plan is on a larger
scale .
Merry Sue asked how much more road is required by going around the top?
Dan said about an additional 400 feet .
The Committee discussed moving the football fields . Dan also eliminated one
baseball field in favor of two practice fields .
There is a 10 foot drop/slope next to the football field which makes it
difficult to put a practice field there .
Merry Sue said there a not enough other baseball fields in town to
eliminate that one.
There is an area included for future expansion .
Dr . DeMoura said the reality is whatever we open with is what will be
there. He does not see money for expansion .
Dan said if it were not for environmental concerns the area closer to the
river would be great for a field .
From the edge of the baseball field to the river is 610 feet .
Steve said Cons Coin wanted 400 feet but never voted on it. The law
requires only 100 feet from the river . Everything more is an accommodation .
Bill thinks the Committee should accommodate their needs .
The Committee agreed they should put one baseball field back .
They like the new location of football /track .
Peter suggested putting the practice field south , rather than toward the
river to avoid conflict .
Steve said if it will cost more to go south , then he is against that .
