5. Design and Constructability and a detailed cost estimate will begin
tomorrow, Oct. 5th. The Committee will then have a more detailed cost
estimate to work with and can then begin any value added decisions.
The reviews will be complete 2 weeks from today, will be presented to the
Committee, with 1 week for review and the following week they hope to get a
sign off.
Paul suggested, in an effort to avoid wasting valuable meeting time, have
the reviews/estimates sent to the Committee members when they are complete.
That will give Chartwell one additional week to review. On Oct 25th, the
Committee will then be prepared to take action and make decisions.
Everyone will be better prepared this way.
Chartwell will distribute the information to the Committee members when it
becomes available.
Bob suggested holding that meeting at SMMA offices, all subconsultants
could then be present.
Bill will organize getting a vehicle for the trip to Boston, Oct 25th. It
will probably leave Town Hall at 2 : 15 - time to be resolved at next week's
meeting.
6. Design Development Completion. The Committee reviewed the Sept. 28
document prepared by Chartwell .
2. Central kitchen: Bob explained the kitchen, as designed, can
accommodate the high school . with the addition of 3 pieces of equipment,
which the other schools own already , the high school kitchen can serve as a
central kitchen, with no design changes. They will make all utility
provisions for those 3 pieces of equipment.
The kitchen will have the ability to feed 3,000 but no design changes are
necessary. The School Department will then have the option.
4. Millwork in classroom - for FF & E subcommittee.
Bob needs confirmation that what is shown in the plans is what the
Committee wants.
Merry Sue explained they are presently reviewing but are not finished.
There are a lot of issues they need specialist' s assistance.
Paul suggested tabling this issue, as long as it will not hold up SMMA.
Bob said they can defer it for awhile but need to have a decision by the
end of this Month.
6 . Sinks: Student Activity room - yes; Mail work room - yes; TV studio, no;
alternate ed. , yes.
Bill suggested putting in individual hot water heaters where coffee pots
will be.
Paul said there is an issue with the rate of rise, in the winter the 40-50
degree rise is not sufficient. Also, it may cut capital costs but
operationally it is too expensive.
Merry Sue noted there are bathrooms in that area so it is not a long run
for the plumbing.
7 . Relocation of STP - agreed it should be a separate, remote building.
8. Telephone enclosures for pay phones, the internal ones do not need
enclosures.
Bob will provide an outlet for an external pay phone.
9 . Demarcation of security zones within the building.
Bob said this is best left to SMMA who will be meeting with the Police
Department in a few weeks and the Superintendent will also attend. They
will resolve all security issues at that time.
3
