Steve said there is no way to justify putting every drop of the proposed
FF&E into the project. There is a lot of equipment that won ' t be touched
for 5 years.
Paul said the program is predicated on 1180 students , it has to be based on
that number. They must determine what is needed for 1180 students .
Dr. DeMoura said they are only dealing with construction phase now. If
bids come in high, they can go, at a later date , to the town for additional
FF&E funds.
Peter said it would not be reimbursable .
Merry Sue asked if the October Town meeting could authorize another $2
million , could it be put into the budget for reimbursement at that time?
Even at $151 per sq foot, as long as the project is still under it' s
maximum reimbursement, could they add to the budget?
Phil does not know.
He said you cannot put the alternates back it at a later date as change
orders. The law is intended for that not to happen. It may have an effect
on the order of the bidders.
Paul said the Committee may consider delaying the school to get the
additional money ($161 ) .
Ian asked if they would wail until June 30th? That would be a more
expensive time to bid the project.
Paul said they could extend the time through addendum.
Phil said GESS does not know when this bill might come up . He suggested
the Committee contact their legislators and find out where the bill is and
get their best possible guesstimate of when it may hit the floor .
Paul can have that answer in 2 days .
Merry Sue asked what the next step is?
Bill wants to wait and see what the legislators come up with before doing
anything else.
Janice wants to go to the Selectmen , quote figures and ask their advice.
Are they willing to go out on a limb with this? Do they want to put it on
the ballot? Present it to them simply and straight forward .
Paul said the Committee can go either way , they are just providing the
facts to the Town .
Ian said there has been a lot of pressure to get all the other project
costs down and the Committee should do that with the FF&E budget.
Paul agreed but the Committee should have a contingency plan.
**. Merry Sue made a motion to present to the Selectmen information on
the budget and request they consider putting on the town meeting
warrant a request for some additional funds for the High School and
also a debt exclusion vote if necessary. Janice seconded the
motion.
Discussion :
Joe thinks the Committee should ask for some guidance from the Selectmen .
Just present them the facts and let them make the decision .
6
