asked about his expertise with mechanical systems? <br /> Tom said he relies upon the consulting engineers a lot. He keeps his eyes <br /> and ears open , he is always listening to the workers , he can smell out a <br /> problem. <br /> Joe said watching the materials is a major consideration . <br /> Tom said what shows up at the job is not always the same as the documents , <br /> especially when they run short. <br /> Joe asked how he was with keeping the building inspector informed? <br /> Tom said he does keep him informed , communication is very important to <br /> heading off problems . <br /> Merry Sue asked how he saw his role with this Committee and the Project <br /> Manager? <br /> Tom said he is the eyes and ears of the Committee . He tries to solve <br /> problems, not create them. He considers himself the Committee' s <br /> representative and he passes on what the Committee expects. The timeliness <br /> of communication is important. <br /> Ed said given the behavior of this community , there is the potential for <br /> different people to arrive at the site at times . What is his strategy to <br /> avoid working for 45 different bosses? <br /> Tom said the Committee should designate who the contact person is , the <br /> first to report to. He would then inform them of the visit and he would <br /> let the guest know he will be reporting back , if they have any messages. <br /> You can ' t let a problem go 2-3 days. <br /> Paul McLaughlin . He explained he lived in Mashpee for 10 years and has 3 <br /> sons in the Mashpee school system. <br /> His most recent project was a new library in Burlington MA for $6 million <br /> which was completed in February. <br /> Before that was a $7 million addition to the library in Waltham. He was on <br /> the job 2 years and it took an additional 5 months to complete . <br /> He worked on the Library in Plymouth , $9 million , designed by Susaki <br /> Associates . The Bourne High School addition and renovation , for $8 <br /> million . <br /> He has looked at the plans for this project and is very familiar with this <br /> type of construction , there is nothing unusual that he has not worked with <br /> before. There is a lot of good detailing on the drawings . He also scanned <br /> the specs which look very good. <br /> Prior to working as a clerk , he worked in an architect' s office which did a <br /> lot of school work -Fairhaven and Seekonk High Schools , Barnstable East and <br /> West elementary schools. He also worked as an architect's representative <br /> for Strekalovsky and Hoit. <br /> Paul asked him about his mechanical• (heating , plumbing) experience? <br /> Mr . McLaughlin said he understands it all very well , has no problem with <br /> any of it. He heard the Committee mention duel fuel , the 2 libraries he <br /> worked on have dual fuel option . The entire town of Waltham does also and <br /> they can change over all the buildings in the city at any time. <br /> Paul asked how he perceived his role as clerk , in relation to the speed of <br /> the job? <br /> Mr. McLaughlin said the speed of the job is mostly dependent on the <br /> 7 <br />
