Dr. DeMoura expressed a concern about groundwater which seems to be coming up. It is
evident in the tiles on the first floor, some are lifting in the cafeteria and there is water
underneath.
Paul does not think it is a groundwater problem. The concrete is still drying most likely. The
second floor can breath. It is a natural situation of a new building.
Dr. DeMoura expressed concern about the carpeting?
Paul said the moisture can come up through the carpet, it can breath better than tile.
Don Cook explained that he sent a piece of tile to a lab because of this. The lab said the stain
starts at the top and goes partially through. He does not yet have the results of what the stain
actually is. When he receives written results he will send them to SMMA and the tile
manufacturer.
Jim explained that the town has received a request for information, a list of 25 items. Chartwell
gave them a price for compiling and copying all that information. The town will have to decide
how they want to keep access to this information. It may be better for people requesting the
information to come to Chartwell's office.
Jim said handicap violations is another issue. Paul said that may need part time supervision.
** Vote on motion for Chartwell invoice: All members in favor 5-0**
**Paul made a motion to forward for payment 3 invoices for SMMA for$3,586.39,
$2,793.43, $720.19. Merry Sue seconded the motion.
These hours are for information the Committee requested and to extend VHB's contract.
**All members were in favor 5-0**
** Paul made a motion to forward for payment an invoice for Baker and Taylor for
library books for$6,196.44. Merry Sue seconded the motion. All members were in
favor 5-0**
Handicap issues: the architectural access board reviewed the complaint and visited the site. We
resolved some of the issues, we questioned some we didn't understand. We still have a few
problems. The State access board will have a report to use in 2 weeks. Many of the complaints
were not violations.
Paul explained the board can rule in favor or against us but the complainant can file a civil suit
and municipalities are not exempt. Some people comply because of the threat of a suit.
Jim explained we received a letter from the Cape Cod Commission seeking various items to
meet their requirements. They must come from various sources - school dept. SMMA etc.
Dr. DeMoura will set up a meeting with Don Cook, John Williams and the Chemistry and Art
Depts. To address some of these items. Jim will coordinate this effort.
Flashing lights: Dr. DeMoura explained the school committee is requesting flashing lights be
installed at the 151 intersection.
3
