SCALLOP REGULATIONS FOR THE 1985 - 1986 SEASON <br /> The Board of Selectmen, following .a public hearing on September 18, <br /> 1985 , adopted the following scallop regulations for the 1985-1986 s <br /> season : <br /> 1 . All areas will be open to scalloping from October 1, 1985 <br /> to March 30 , 1986, 7 days a week (exception - no commercial <br /> scalloping on Sundays) , � hour before sunrise to � hour before <br /> sunset. <br /> 2. Permits must be in the possession of each scalloper and plainly <br /> visible . <br /> 3 . The following areas will be open to the taking of scallops by <br /> family and commercial permit holders : <br /> a. Beginning October 1, 1985 , Mashpee will allow draggin <br /> and handraking of scallops between the buoys in Waquoit <br /> Bay channel only and Popponesset Bay channel only. By <br /> no means will dragging be allowed on the easterly side <br /> of the buoys on the easterly flats . The rest of Waquoit <br /> Bay will be open to -dip-'nets only. <br /> b. Beginning October 1 , 1985 all other rivers and estuaries <br /> will be open to dip nets only, including Great and Little <br /> Rivers and the flats in Popponesset Bay. Beginning r <br /> December 1, 1985 dragging will be permitted in Great and <br /> Little River channels and the flats at Popponesset Bay. <br /> C. Under no circumstances will dragging be permitted in areas <br /> designated as private shellfish grants in the Town of <br /> Mashpee. <br /> 4. The taking of scallops by the method of scuba-diving is pro- <br /> hibited in all areas. The taking of scallops using the <br /> methods of snorkeling, wading and dip-netting from boats will <br /> be allowed in all areas. <br /> 5 . Dredges are limited to the 3-foot size, 2 dredges per permit. <br /> 6. All culling will be done in the channel . Culling will not <br /> be permitted on or close to shore. Disposition of starfish, <br /> winkels, cockles, conchs and their eggstrings above high-water <br /> mark is mandated by law. <br /> 7. No commercial scalloping on Sundays . <br /> 8. Mashpee guest permit holders are not permitted to take <br /> scallops under that permit. <br /> 9. No scalloping is permitted ? hour after sunset, until hour l <br /> before sunrise. <br /> 10. There will be no taking of seed scallops, which are scallops ', <br /> that do nom have a well-defined annual growth ring. Seed ', <br /> must be returned to the water where taken immediately. II' <br /> 11. Limits : Commercial permit - 10 bushels per day <br /> Family permit - Not to exceed 1 bushel per week ; ' <br />
