y
Explanation: This article would fix errors in the existing Zoning By-law regarding signs
in commercial and industrial zoning districts. Currently, subsection 174-55.C., which
provides for a freestanding sign on each lot, is written so that only industrial districts are
legally allowed such a sign. The intent of this subsection was to provide rules and
requirements for freestanding signs in both industrial and commercial zoning districts.
Section 174-55 is the section relating to signs in industrial and commercial zones.
In addition to adding a reference to commercial districts, this article will also fix a
typographical error, in which the sign area, height limit and sign setback requirements
portion of the section were printed twice. Finally, the word "sign" had been omitted
after "freestanding" in the sentence regarding the measurement of the height of the
freestanding sign. This article provides this fix as well.
Article 17
To see if the Town will vote to amend the zoning bylaw by amending Section 174-
24.C.(5) as follows:
In the first sentence replace the phrase "seventeen (17)" with the phrase "thirteen
(13)
In the second sentence, delete the phrase "and Parks and Recreation Director" and
replace the phrase "shall also submit copies to the Shellfish Commissioner,
Harbormaster and Waterways Committee, and the applicant shall supply any additional
copies" with the phrase "shall also notify the Shellfish Constable and Harbormaster of
the application.and that copies may be viewed.at the office of the Town Planner";
Eliminate the third sentence;
or take any other action relating thereto.
Submitted by Planning Board
Explanation: This article would reduce the number of copies of special permit
application materials required to be filed with the Planning Board and eliminates
requirements for copies of all application materials to be forwarded .to the "Parks and
Recreation Director", "Waterways Committee"and Zoning Board of Appeals.
Page 10
October 2002 Town Meeting
