191 <br />Annual Town Meeting Warrant, March 1, 1971 (cont'd) <br />Article 15. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate <br />or take from available funds, the sum of $450 to purchase office equip- <br />ment for the Assessors' office. <br />Action: Motion made and seconded to raise and appropriate the <br />sum of $450. A vote. <br />' Article 16. To see if the Town will vote to accept Chapter 41 of the <br />General Laws, Section 108L, to establish a career incentive pay program <br />offering base salary increases to regular police officers as a reward <br />for furthering their education in the field of police work. If approved, <br />police career incentive base salary shall be predicated on the accumulation <br />of points earned in the following manner: 1 point for each semester credit <br />earned toward a baccalaureate degree;•.,60 points for an'associate degree; <br />120 points for a baccalaureate degree; 1.50 points for a degree of master <br />or for a degree in law. All credits and degrees shall be earned in an educational <br />institution accredited by the New England Association of Colleges. Base <br />salary increases shall be granted as follows: A 3% increase for 10 points, <br />a 6% increase for 25 points, a 10% increase for 40 points, and a 15% increase <br />for 60 points; a 20% increase for 120 points, and a 30% increase for 150 points. <br />If the Town accepts this article, the Commonwealth will reimburse one-half <br />the cost - or take any other action thereon. <br />Action: Motion made and seconded that article be accepted as read. <br />The motion dial not carry. <br />Article 17. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate <br />the sum of $7,000 for the purchase of a .late model ambulance, or take any <br />other action thereon. <br />Action: Motion made and seconded article be amended to read: To <br />see if the Town will. vote to raise and appropriate the sum of <br />' $10,000 for the purchase of a recent model ambulance, or take <br />any other action thereon. A vote: Motion made and seconded <br />to accept article as amended. The vote carried. <br />Article 18. To see if the Town will vote to add to the Town By -Laws, <br />"Whoever remains in a road or street or elsewhere in the Town of Mashoee <br />and accosts or addresses another person with profane or obscene language <br />may be arrested by a police officer without a warrant if performed in the <br />officer's presence and if unknown to such officer kept in custody until <br />he can be taken before the court having jurisdiction. Any person violat- <br />ing this by-law shall be punished in an amount not exceeding $50 for each <br />offense." <br />Action: Motion made and seconded article be accepted as read. A vote. <br />Article 19. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate or <br />take from available funds, the sum of $1,500 for reseeding quahogs and <br />oysters, or take any other action thereon. <br />Action: Motion made and seconded article be indefinitely postponed. <br />A vote. <br />Article 20. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Moderator <br />to appoint a Vocational School study committee made up of: <br />' One School Committee Member <br />One Board of Selectmen Member <br />One Finance Committee Member <br />One Member at Large <br />or take any.other action thereon. <br />Action: Motion made and seconded article be accepted as read. A <br />unanimous vote. <br />
