PLANNING BOARD
Town of Mashpee
PIANNING BOARDMINUTES : .-25- 84 Cont'd. Page 5
Chester Garland felt the three people who objected most to the district
Mrs . Wilson, Mr. Pratt and Mr. Sweeney - was because of their plight
and vested interests, He went on to say other advances in filtering
may occur in the future and enable the water to be refined
Mr. Sweeney responded to Mr. Garland by saying he wasn't representing
anyone but was a concerned i t i en. Mrs , Wilson assured Mr. Garland
that her comments were on a technical natter and she was not influenced
by the persons laying the bills
Mr. Mrsters said he felt Mrs , Wilson presented a balanced look.
The Planning Board took the article under advisement and said they
would sake a recommendation before or at town meeting.
Mr. Marsters said the next article to be considered was the moritorium
article , He read the article and said it was presented by the Mashpee
Taxpayer's Association and the Planning Board was required to hold a
Public hearing. He then asked the proponements to mare a statement.
John Malone , President of the Taxpayer's Association read a letter
he submitted as a hatter of record, and which is attached to these
minutes , He said the Association was not against construction but
was concerned' with unstructured growth. He read from an editorial
which was published on 1/31/84 which stated the Planning Board was
swamped , the police understaffed o no water, the lagoon was full and
the building inspector was buried
Mr. Marsters responded that what Mr. Malone said were generalities
and he can't help but take a little offense . He said the Planning
Board and others are working diligently to make sure the growth is
done right. He also said he didn't think it fair that Mr. Malone
set himself up as an expert.
Mr. Malone went on to say he was not a planner by any means but his
concern is growth in Mashpee and the rate of growth and the Town
services available at this time , He said the town services have trouble
keeping up with existing and growth should be slowed down to give
them a chance to catch u .
John Ferguson of the Businessmen's Association read a statement in
which they said condominium residents put less strain on town services
than single-family housing as most are summer res-idents. He also said
condominiums provide the town with needed tax revenue .
Mrs , Petti of the School Committee wanted to know why if they provided
tax revenue , why do we have to cut back in hiring policemen and firemen e
