School Committee Meeting <br /> January 6, 2010 <br /> Minutes <br /> Present were: Richard Bailey, Janice Mills, Kathy Stanley, MaryRose Grady and Jose <br /> Franco. Also present were Ann Bradshaw, Superintendent; Maria Hortaridis, Business <br /> Manager and Olivia Fisher, Student Advisory Council. <br /> I. Call Meeting to Order <br /> Mr. Bailey called meeting to order at 6:30pm. <br /> H. Executive Session <br /> Mrs. Stanley made a motion, seconded by Mrs. Mills to move into Executive <br /> Session for the purpose of personnel,negotiations and litigation. <br /> Roll Call Vote: In favor—Mr. Bailey, Mrs. Mills, Mrs. Stanley, Mrs. Grady and Mr. <br /> Franco; opposed—none. <br /> III. Public Hearing on FY11 Budget <br /> Mr. Franco made a motion seconded by Mrs. Mills to go into the public hearing <br /> on FYI l budget. <br /> Vote: Unanimous <br /> Mrs. Bradshaw presented the FYI l budget proposal. Overview: salaries are 80% <br /> of our budget, 20%of budget is expenses. Bringing forward tonight is a maintenance <br /> budget -this is what we need to maintain what we have now. The Town has asked us to <br /> take the FY10 budget and reduce it by 2%. It is early in the process and we will continue <br /> to work with the Town. <br /> Thank you to Mrs. Hortaridis for putting together a more readable format for the <br /> budget. <br /> Anyone interested in coming in to talk to us about the budget are welcome to <br /> contact Maria and set up a time that is convenient. <br /> Open meeting for questions: <br /> —Mrs. Avtges, MTA President asked to have other salaries on pg. 1 explained? <br /> Mrs. Hortaridis said to tum to page 18 at the top-we have contractual obligations of <br /> 5, 091, unfunded grant liability- there will be a few grants that might not be coming in <br /> that paid salaries for teachers so we need to put$20,000 in, earned credit for$45,000 for <br /> teachers moving up and retirements since we do not know exactly what that will be yet. <br /> —Terrie Cook, Selectman asked to have the OD tuition explained in more detail? <br /> Mrs. Bradshaw explained that there are two pieces to the increase: one is based on the <br /> number of students we anticipate having in OD and the other is we are anticipating a 5% <br /> increase in tuition. <br /> —Terrie Cook also asked why membership collaborative is going up to $270,000? <br /> Mrs. Hortaridis explained that this is a prepaid. Mrs. Bradshaw said they will map out the <br /> details and show the Committee the flow of it. <br /> —Mrs. Grady asked why classroom teacher salaries at KCC have gone up over <br /> 12%and QS went down? Mrs. Bradshaw explained a couple of factors are steps and <br /> 1 <br />
