t
s
building's stats, f would endorse this course of action. The reserved spaces near the
building often go unused due to confusion of the intended use and Fear of ticketing.
2. Reviewing question and concerns about fulfilling orders for donor/memorial bricks and
plaques. During the course,of the month, Friends' President Nancy Soderberg raised
concerns about the process, the long wait time, and the condition of the briefs and
plaques. Catherine offered to have the vendor cone out and examine the plaques on the
hanging donor wall in the entryway, and determine if the plaques can be refurbished in
some way.
In response to Nancy's question about continuing the fnor Wall program and perhaps
expanding to another wall, Catherine and I determined.that none of the other walls in the
entryways could accommodate the donor plaque system, due to heating vents, and
various alarms and control panels. If the Friends were to continue recognizing donors via
Library Donor wall, an interior wall would have to be identified. f cannot readily
identify another wall space that I would consider suitable, which would not potentially
disrupt the placement of 'Work in the flourishing monthly artist programs, but it i
possible that one exists.
Similarly, there have been problems with delays in installing bricks for the outside
walkwa .. The company that engraves the briefs does not fill, orders until they have a
significant amount to produce, and sine the orders only trickle in at this point, the .
waiting period can be as long as one year. Donors, are understandably upset when their
brick does not appear promptly on the walkway. Nancy has investigated other companies
who might be able to better serve the needs of the group. one question that should be
addressed is the number, and placement of briefs as part of the walkway. Catherine
indicated that the design plan for the building included a column of engraved bricks on
either side of the main brick walkway. There are perhaps a dozen "blank"briefs left in
this pattern, which could be purchased. Nancy has indicated a desire to sell as many .
briefs as possible and cover the entire walkway in names if possible.
The question•of continuiLng•and/or expanding the Donor Wall Plagues and Briefs was
touched upon at the August 2; meeting with the Friends. Mile Richardson indicated that
at this point in time the Trustees would not be bound by building plans drafted by the
Building and Planning Commission, and could decide independently in regard to
continuing or expanding space for either donor recognition program..
. Flans to spend Beautification funds donated to the Friends of the Library were reviewed.
The Fiends met with Evelyn Buschenfeldt on the morning of July 21 to discuss potential
projects, such as a picnic table or A.di r-ondack chairs to be placed on the grounds. Mrs.
Buschenfeldt has since expressed a desire to see the funds used for lanting around.the
