F
• Subsequently, Catherine Laurent and I discussed, scheduling the Library's annual carpet
cleaning for the morning of Saturday, October 6.-Doing it on that Saturday would allow
the crew to clean the carpets, and then have several days to allow them to dry while the
Library is closed. (Monday, October 8 is Columbus Day) Last year, there was not
enough time and there was concern that the metal bottoms of the chairs would lea e gust
marks on the wet rugs. The drily possible concern in this scenario might be for triose
employees who would opt to work on that Saturday,,and night have allergies or low
tolerance for the carpet cleaning fumes which would,be present in the building that clay.
Frank Lord ofthe Mashp e One-Room Schoolhouse preservation Council contacted me
in late June to propose that the Library be the new hone of the model of the One-Room
Schoolhouse built by Mashpee students. It has been displayed in, or adjacent to the
1 as .p e Archives building. Now that the Archives is closed, and its.future uncertain,
Mr. Lord is looking for a home for the model. During the last month I have had several
meetings.with Mr. Lord. lie has supplied photos of the model and we have canvassed the
Library together to identify potential display sites. Mr. Lord has indicated that he.would
like to find a home for the display, which would-be in a location which would allow easy
viewing access for small children. I have attempted to clarify with 1r. Lord whether or
not the Schoolhouse would he an outright gift-to the Library, or if.this night be a
temporary arrangement. He has indicated that he would like to put it in a permanent
hone, and would not necessarily be seeking to re--locate it should a new Archive building
emerge.
After surveying the building, there are very few options that offer the amount of space
needed to house a display of this size and height. Sites on the second floor and in the
Children's Doom were scouted, but in each instance it would obstract handicapped access
to the book shelves. Mr. Lord proposed that we might display the entire table, stand and
Plexiglas enclosure in.the middle of the first floor lobby in the open space in front ofile
time capsule. I agreed to bring his proposal to the Trustees, and he is continuing t
explore other possible venues, which included the school library at the Quashnet School.
Materials for completing the state A IS report have arrived and must be postmarked a.nd
mailed to the state no later than August 24. 1 have been working on compiling data and
crunching numbers and will have the reports completed by the stated deadline.
The survey portion of the Strategic Planning process was completed last week as a few
remaining surveys were submitted. All of the surveys that were not completed'directly
online have been manually entered into thic Surrey Monkey interface. In the final review,
1 .people participated in the survey, and 269 4.6% completed the entire form.
Tifteen percent of those who responded to the survey did not answer every question.
