• there is not alot of community activity or function that is involved
around this specific disaster. My sister lives in Town so we got to
live there, but if she didn' t live in Town, and I didn' t have any
friends or I just moved to Town for a short period of time. " Chm.
Thomas, "Everyone is afraid to extend a hand like the Red Cross or
any one thing or an other because funds are so tight, and they don' t
want to over step, but I agree with you that there should be an avenue
where you have the security feeling that you can go to and something
at least temporarily is there to help you, but, and we have projected
this to our new Civil Defense Director that all disasters are not
nuclear which it is true, we have flood, fire and it is something that
we should definitely see what we can do. " Sol. Garland, " I think
from that standpoint that is something the Civil Defense Director
should organize; somewhere to go and who to talk to, and I think that
beyond that this Board could maybe assist by using its authority to
direct the police and fire departments to conduct their investigations
as expeditiously as possible so that it just doesn' t hang on and on,
that part of it could be placed in the hands of the insurance company.
Hopefully, it would reduce the overall time play, for some few days ,
that is an other avenue of help, but I think Mrs . Thomas is right that
this would be a proper, thank heavens that this does not often happern,
but when it does happen the Civil Defense Director should have on hand
all those people than can be contacted to offer relief and help these
people, that is necessary. " Mrs. .Tremblett, "The biggest thing, the
biggest problem is and we were told this specifically by the fire de-
partment that if someone had been burned or a cat had died even though
it was of suspicious origin then there would be no problem. There
would be no problem in expediting the investigation. To my knowledge
our fire was October 6 , and it is still under investigation because
they cannot figure out the fire . They chose one direction and one
direction only and that was that was suspicious and that it was set,
but they have no proof whatsoever in any directions and it goes on and
on; inuendoes , everything else , the intimidations , that the fire de-
partment. . . " Sel. Garland said, " let me interrupt you, when you say
fire department are you talking about the local fire department or the
state fire marshall' s office. " Mrs. Tremblett, "the town fire depart-
ment. " Sel. Garland, " let me assure you we can address that subject. "
Chm. Thomas, "yes , we can take care of that. " Mrs . Tremblett, " the
intimidation that is there and coming right out and saying, well I
said to Mr. Martini , the man that was doing the investigation, I was
upset, crying and the whole bit, and I said, can you tell me what hap-
pened, how long did it take for my house to burn down, what happened
and all these questions you know. He just looked at me and said, you
tell me. I said I don' t understand what you are saying. He said well
your guilty until I prove your innocent, and this investigation will go
on that road, and I know this has happened before to people who have
had their house burnt in this town. I said to him I am trying to deal
with my house burned now I have to deal with maybe you are going to
find something there that will incrimenate me and I didn' t do anything. "
Chm. Thomas , "did you speak to the Fire Chief about this?" Mrs . Trem-
blett, "yes , and he tried to expedite the investigation, but when he
talked to Martini , he said that he was worried about proposition 2;,
and spending too much money." Sel. Garland, "who said that? " Mrs .
Tremblett, "Martini. It was the Fire Chief who has been very nice about
it , but evidently his hands are tied as far as what Mr. Martini says
and does . " Sel. Garland, " what was the location of the fire , what
street. " Mrs . Tremblett , " it is Old Mill Road. " Chm. Thomas , "it is
