37
Recreation Department Report
To the Citizens of the Town of Mashpee:
I have very little to report on the activities of the recrea-
tion department.
As we are all aware, the school operating in the Town Hall,
made it impossible to have any social or athletic activities,
until this Fall.
However, there was a little interest aroused last summer,
in softball; but it too dwindled out. There was a small amount
of equipment purchased, and since it wasn't used there will
be material to start with if the interest should be aroused
again.
This Fall basketball has been started again. The Board of
Selectmen were very helpful in getting the basketball equip-
ment replaced this year. We have some very interested men
of our town, who have volunteered their time to make it
possible for our youth to play on Wednesday and Thursday
evenings. They too enjoy themselves by taking active partici-
pation in the games. Mr. Kenneth Coombs coaches a group
of boys on Wednesday afternoons in basketball. This age
group ranges from ten to fourteen years of age. The Rev.
Freedrick Nagle has a group of about the same age, on Sat-
urday mornings.
I am sure that more interest will be shown as the year
goes on. The real important thing in this department, is the
lack of members on the board.
Physical fitness is very important as pointed out by our
President in his physical fitness program. I am sure it should
be started in early youth.
