98 <br />5. Studs shall not be spliced. 6. Floor joists on exterior walls shall bear <br />on at least a one inch by six inch ribbon let into the face of the studding, <br />Joists bearing on such ribbons shall be securely nailed to the studs. <br />Para. 13. Plates: All top plates shall be not less than two inches by <br />four inches doubled, which shall lap at all corners and joints or butts. <br />Para. 14. Interior Partitions. 1. All bearing partitions shall be not <br />less than two inches by four inches set the four inch way, and not more <br />than sixteen inches on center. 2. All openings in bearing partitons shall <br />have double headers framed as required in exterior openings. 3. Top <br />plates for bearing partitions shall be doubled. <br />Para. 15. Notching of Timbers: Notching of Joists to facilitate the <br />installation of pipes and ducts may be permitted with the following in- <br />stallations: 1. Top and bottom edges may be notched not to exceed one <br />sixth of the joists depth. Notching will not be permitted in middle third <br />of any joist span. 2. if cutting of a floor joist is necessary, a header the <br />full depth of the joist shall be cut into support the ends of the joists. <br />3. Holes may be bored through the timbers if they do not exceed two <br />and a half inches in diameter and are not closer than two inches to <br />the top or bottom edges of the Joists. <br />Para. 16. Basement garages shall be of fire resistant construction. <br />Para. 17. Before the frame of any building is covered with any <br />interior wall covering the Building Inspector shall be notified, and in- <br />spection shall be made by him before said wall covering is applied. <br />Section 4. New Materials and Methods. All new materials and <br />methods of construction, devices and equipment may be approved by <br />the Building Inspector for use in building by the procedure herein pro- <br />vited when they are approved to be the equal of those specifically re- <br />quired by this code: or he shall adopt the recommendations promulgated <br />by the Board of Standards in the Massachusetts Department of Public <br />Safety. <br />Section 5. Sewage. A cesspool or other means of sewage disposal <br />may be constructed only after a permit is secured from the Building <br />Inspector subject to the rules of the Board of Health. <br />Section 7. Enforcement. <br />Para. 1. This code shall be administered by the Building Inspector, <br />Para. 2. Stop Work Order: Whenever the provisions of this code <br />or the plans and specifications approved thereunder are not complied <br />with, a stop work order shall be served on the owner or his representa- <br />tive by the Building Inspector or his employee, and a copy thereof may <br />be posted at the site of the construction. Such stop work order shall not <br />be removed except by written notice of the Building Inspector after <br />satisfactory evidence has been supplied that the violation has been cor- <br />rected. Failure to comply with such stop work order shall constitute a <br />violation of this code. <br />Section 8. Board of Appeals. <br />Para. 1. A Board of Appeals shall be appointed by the Selectmen to <br />consist of three members. All members shall be residents of the Town of <br />Mashpee and shall not be actively engaged in the building trades. The <br />appointments first made shall be for the term of three years. Vacancies <br />shall be filled by the Board of Selectmen for the unexpired term. <br />No member shall act in any case in which he feels he is disqualified, in <br />which case the remaining members shall designate a substitute. Every <br />decision of the Board shall be in writing, and shall require the assert <br />of at least two members and shall be a matter of public record. <br />
