62
i
A1 We also wish to have a large rustic sign designed, (sim-
ilar to National Park signs) enough constructed and erected
at all entrances to the town. Such signs will be outstanding
and unique to Mashpee. We hope to have these signs in-
stalled prior to the Centennial celebration and to stand as
long as they may last.
A pictorial edition is now being prepared, and will be
sold indefinitely at the Old Indian Church, (to benefit from
proceeds on that location) and at the various points in the
historic district, to further supply funds for more historic
fdevelopment.
Plans have been made to give all townspeople that are
k interested, instructions in various forms of arts and crafts.
A program is underway to instruct the children in making
F items of interest for the centennial, such as: pottery, Indian
necklaces, shingle painting, shell designs, and the art of
j candle making. These arts and crafts.are to be exhibited and
some may be sold for funds pertinent to our historic needs.
We wish to encourage the people of Mashpee to make
plans to dress in a costume of their choice during the cen-
tennial celebration. Costumes of any period from the contact
period (Landing of Pilgrims) to the flapper period are recom-
mended. Groups may wish to gather together in sewing
circles to make the costume of their choice.
We hope that the Old Indian Church Authority will make
this a joint effort, as we wish to assist them in preparing
for this celebration as well as the rededication of the restored
d Old Indian Church.
The time has finally arrived to proceed with organization
of the essential committees to carry thru plans that have
been laid out for the centennial. We have asked for volun-
teers to sign up for the committee. of your choice, and all
work together for a successful celebration. ]
At this point, our progress is at a standstill as far as
park developments are concerned due to winter weather, but
we hope to return to work just as soon as weather permits;
so that a large percentage of the work will be complete be-
fore winter 1969. With the full cooperation of all the people
of this town, there is no question that this will be of lasting
affect on all of us.
Respectfully submitted,
AMELIA G. BINGHAM
r
